After a long day of walleye charter fishing, we cleaned up and visited 1812 Food & Spirits. Great atmosphere, it was clean, the drinks were excellent thanks to Kim, one of the bar tenders. The lady had walleye and I had a pork ribeye. Both were absolutely cooked to perfection! What a great place! We’ll be back!

Let me get straight to the point. I came here because I saw a picture of their carrot cake. However I will start at the beginning of dinner. This is a very nice establishment. Everybody was well dressed, the facility was very clean and the staff was great. The overall cost made me skip a appetizer. For the first time in years I got prime rib, it was outstanding. The horseradish will make you cry, I loved it. The 1812 potatoes were spot on. The Cajun shrimp risotto was equally splendid, was not that spicy but had a good kick to it. The risotto was great tasting as well. The deserts had to be taken home. By the time I got home, it was time to dig in. The carrot cake was great, but the chocolate cake made the rest of the dinner worth the high price. This was more of splurge for us, and glad we did it.

We are visiting this beautiful area and search out local experiences. We stopped for dinner and this is our review. In addition to the stars that I’ve provided, I need to recognize our server Alyssa. She was kind, very helpful, attentive and on spot. The food was terrific, including the low-cal (yeah, right) carrot cake which was sumptuous. On leaving our table I noticed the bar was full of people. That is usually a good sign that locals frequent the restaurant. Sure wish we sat there for that experience. We are only in town for a few days; should we go back or should we continue with our journey? I’ll ask the realtor (kidding), but this would be my hangout if I lived here.

1812 Restaurant is worthy of 100-STARS! We ate on the outside patio and enjoyed the pristine, manicured, retired golf course. The extensive menu provided a vast array of fine-dining options, that were fairly priced accordingly. My sweetheart had the filet mignon, which was tender, juicy and grilled to perfection! The twice baked potato casserole was mesmerizing and magical. ( Yes, I used the words mesmerizing and magical to describe this put-of-this-world potato recipe!) Honestly, the absolute best flavor I’ve ever experienced in any potato dish! 1812 loads their Peach and Blueberry Salad with large bite-size pieces of homemade-candied pecans; which is a nice surprise, as most restaurants sprinkle a few chopped, tiny pieces of nuts. We enjoyed every aspect of 1812! The first thing my sweetheart and I talked about this morning was how wonderful 1812 was last night! This is our new favorite restaurant and is well worth the long drive from our home in Curtice Ohio!

Great service and an excellent early dinner experience at 1812. We started with a shared small beet salad and while the feta cheese looked cubed rather than crumbled the dressing and salad were delicious. My wife enjoyed the eggplant parm with spaghetti while I had the sautéed perch with asparagus. Both dishes were really good and we were glad we visited 1812 and we will be back on our next visit to Catawba Island.

This cute little place was great for the most part. Server Renee was amazing. The drinks were amazing the appetizers were great. Brussel Sprouts w/ cheese were to die for. The main course unfortunately was not that great. Everything was dry including the 1812 potatoes. Had lamb chops and I asked for medium and they were well and dry. Lobster was pretty good. Overall good place. Just make sure you ask for your beef light medium.

Stopped here in Hope’s of a good meal because we saw the google reviews were good. The restaurant was dim and loud at 8 in the evening with rap music coming from the kitchen area. The service was fine but nothing spectacular. The portions were awful, 30$ for some pasta with 3 pieces of shrimp and 26$ for a piece of chicken with a small scoop of soup and a piece of hashbrowns casserole. I am not the type of person to complain about food prices but was optimistic that the flavor might be why the reviews were so high. Well we were wrong about that also, the food was bland with almost no flavor at all except for the soup which tasted like they filled up the dish with half salt…. nothing was overly bad but nothing worth ever having again…. save your money

Great Wednesday Happy Hour! Unlike some watering holes, the drink and food prices were true bargains. A superior wait and bartending staff was a big plus. And music provided by Jerry Zsigo made the afternoon. To paraphrase Big Arnie, ” We’ll be back.”
