I’ve been to many Indian restaurants in the Midwest, and 1947 is by far the best. Each dish is crafted to perfection and absolutely delicious. The warm hospitality of the staff makes this place the perfect place to hang out with friends or family for a truly relaxed meal. The decor is also cool, making for an eclectic vibe and overall a great place to hang out.

What a lovely find! My husband adores Indian food and we are excited to find a great spot like 1947. We started with the 1947 chicken meatballs and they were a great appetizer. I can’t usually handle a lot of Indian food because of the spiciness but they were able to do mild for my Butter Masala and it was delightful. My husband’s Jaipuri Laal Maas was delicious as well. The saffron rice was a lovely addition to both our meals. We also ended up ordering some butter naan.

It’s gonna be hard to not write a novel about this place. Guess I’ll start with the aesthetics. At first glance you enter on the dining side, which has booths and tables to accommodate parties of about 8 adults. Then there is a lounge side with a full bar and seating the runs along the wall. The staff is very attentive, knowledgeable and polite. Not one, not two, but three different staff approached me about the food and made sure I was pleased and not lacking. Each one offered historical knowledge of my dishes and explained the popularity of each in India.

This place is amazing it’s beautiful with great music. The staff was awesome and very helping with menu suggestions. Our food came out fast and was so delicious. The flavors just kinda exploded in our mouths. Definitely recommend the Golgappe Shots and crispy corn. I’ve never had anything like it. Lucked up on a last minute Valentine’s Day reservation and to top it off they even gave roses to all the women. We definitely will be back highly recommended

This place was packed, which is a good sign of great food. 1947 served an explosion of flavor that seemed freshly made just for us. While it was busy, our meal came in a timely manner and we were frequently checked on and water glasses filled. The food tasted very close to where we lived in India once upon a time. We plan on coming back for sure. Maybe I can twist their arm to offer chai ???? Their food was so great — I bet their masala chai would bring back train ride memories. Thanks for a great Mother’s Day lunch!!

I liked the atmosphere and service but food is not really that authentic. Wish I could get that same taste as some Indian costermonger selling street food.

Today for lunch my family and I visited 1947 E & L for the first time. When we entered, the place was very very clean but I was a little spectacle of the place as we were the only people there and it was 1:30pm. The waiter seated us with menus quickly and was very polite as he offered us mango lassi. The tables were clean and set very nicely and the decor of the place was fabulous. We all were pretty excited, hoping that the food would not disappoint us. The waiter came back in minutes and took our orders, it was a very pleasant experience for all of us. Then another waitress came with our mango lassis and she too was very polite. This was probably the most polite restaurant I have ever been at in all Indianapolis, it was great. I didn’t think it could get any better until our food was served. I don’t remember the names of the foods very well but put up pics. All the food was far and above excellence, every bite just melted in our mouths. WOW! All the meat was very tender or fall apart soft… AMAZING! All I can say is their chefs and staff were excellent.

We have heard a lot about this place since it has opened. So, reserved via Open Table and paid a visit on a rainy day. There was enough parking nearby. We’re greeted nicely and taken to our table. The place is spacious and beautifully decorated. We ordered Masala peanuts and Chinese bhel as our appetizers. They came in oblong bowl and in good quantity. Mugalai kofta and garlic naan was our dinner as we were already feeling full with our appetizers. Food was tasteful and was not greasy or creamy which was the best part. The presentation of the food was nice too and quantity was reasonable. The staff was courteous as well. Only reason for giving 4 stars is the pricing on food items. In some Indian restaurants, rice comes complimentary with the entrees and sometimes naan comes complimentary as well per entree. It is towards high price range but that would not stop me from coming here again only not that frequently.

Ordered simple veg items (mushroom and choley) with naan and kulcha it was just okay nothing over the top. Going by the quality and taste it seems we might have paid a bit over the odds for the whole meal. The desserts (Falooda and Rasmalai) were the biggest disappointment.

If you want real Delhi style butter chicken and other North Indian speciality dishes, this is the place to be in Indy. No other restaurant caters to the palate locally. The staff is very friendly and food was also very delicious. The appetizers are also very reasonably priced. Gol gappe shots were AMAZING!! Loved the ambience and Punjabi songs.
