We enjoyed our meal. The grilled octopus was delicious. The table setting was creative. My expectations were high because this was named by “Southern Living “ as the best restaurant in Virginia. It probably would not make my cut of top 5, but it was good.

21 Spoons has quickly become one of our favorite restaurants in our only 2 visits so far. Every individual who works there is so friendly and the owner(s) give such a personable and memorable dining experience. The food is absolutely delicious and even being gluten free I know I can safely dine here, which is invaluable.

I made a reservation for 7pm Friday evening. As we walked up to the restaurant, the door was opened & a man came out & said “welcome Tara!”. I’d never been before, he didn’t know me, but knew it was my reservation & cared enough to greet me by name. We were escorted to a gorgeous little table in a gorgeous little nook, with my name on a place card!! The wonderful gentleman stayed for a few moments & chit chatted until our delightful waitress came up. She gave us waters & explained the menu. We got the scotch egg, pea risotto & salmon. Each dish was beautifully presented & had unique flavors that enhanced the natural food in the dish, versus being seasoned & spiced to the point that that is all we could taste. When my companion went to the bathroom, the gentleman came back over to talk to me to keep me company!! Told me about the owner, the business, his yard Service was fast enough that we never felt forgotten, but slow enough that we never felt rushed. Sheer perfection from beginning to end!

Another scrumptious dinner at 21 Spoons with the shrimp & salmon slider, snapper with couscous & mango/cucumber/mint salsa and the Tropical Storm cocktail – Sooo good! I was here with friends last week for the root beer glazed pork loin with grilled watermelon, the salmon with chive grits, the trio of dips, and the lamb meatballs.

Great atmosphere, hospitable staff, and thoughtful menu. The salmon was perfectly composed with an incredible balance of flavors and a thick crust that held its crispness throughout the 20 minutes I spent savoring the dish. The duck was unfortunately chewy and inedible; this was shared with our server who was very kind and sympathetic, but nothing was done to remedy the situation. I assume this was because it was the end of a long night, and had the timing been different, things would have panned out differently. Overall great experience, would recommend to others, and would absolutely return to try other menu items.

Dining in at 21 Spoons was an experience unlike any other. I’m not just waxing poetic either, I have not eaten at a place like this before. The staff is incredibly welcoming, attentive and kind. I had a lot of fun getting to know everyone and I’m excited to come back. I highly suggest you come in ready to try new things and that you book a reservation in advance. They are currently only open two nights a week, but they are completely worth it.

My wife & I went to 21 Spoons for dinner with friends this evening and it was from top to bottom absolutely the worst experience that we have ever had in a restaurant. To begin, we were seated outside (it was cold) and were not asked if we had a seating preference (now they did have an open table inside but they were too lazy to clean it off and reset it). We sat down outside and after just a few minutes realized that as the sun was going down, we were going to be way too cold to be comfortable throughout the entire meal. So we moved indoors after they realized that they were not going to sell us on eating in the cold. Our waitress was well intentioned and kind but was definitely not trained to work in a fast paced restaurant’s environment. After placing our orders, it took forever to get our food. In fact the entire meal took in excess of two hours (now mind you that the menu politely asks you to finish your meal in 90 minutes). When I was trying to get clarification about part of our order from the snarky little millennial food runner, her reply to me was unnecessarily rude, arrogant and condescending in only the way an ignorant and untrained millennial can be. (Good luck little millennial for you have reached your vocational zenith.) At the 1 hour and 50 minute mark, we asked our waitress when and if we would receive our entrees. She nervously replied that they were coming out in a minute. When she brought our entrees to the table, my wife’s duck breast was completely bloody raw (yes, still quacking) and my roasted chicken dinner was just pulled from the microwave and was so hot that it burned my tongue and the roof of my mouth (we won’t even discuss how disgusting chicken tastes when cooked in a microwave oven). We instantly got the attention of the waitress and had our food returned to the kitchen. When she came back to the table, she tried to make it sound as if she was going to do us a favor and remove the entrees from our bill. There was no mention of any adjustments or accommodations to the bill or discussion of any kind of how they could make right this abysmal experience that we had. I was so bothered by the experience that we had at dinner that I called to speak with the owner when I got home. The owner gave nothing but excuses during the entire conversation and then gave me the obligatory, half-hearted and less than sincere apology. At that point, I felt it was time to end the conversation as there was no satisfaction to be had. I figured my time would be best spent informing others about our experience in order to save someone else from a disappointing, frustrating and over priced evening.

Dining here was such a great experience and I am looking forward to coming back! The ambience was relaxing, the service was fantastic, and the food was great! I love restaurants that have smaller/seasonal menus – it shows great care for what they are serving up. We tried a number of items but I highly recommend the lamb lollipops, mushroom risotto, and the mind-blowing quinoa chocolate cake!

My husband and I had dinner at 21 spoons on April 14th and we will absolutely go back. Service was warm and attentive throughout. We had the lamb lollipops – very tender and delicious. I had the bacon wrapped duck and the aroma of duck and bacon cooked just right was amazing. The duck was cooked perfectly, tender and tasty. The wine list offers a broad variety of varietals, styles and prices; we enjoyed an Italian rose with our meal. Finally we finished with a shared piece of the very light Thai Tea Cake with Matcha cream; it was the perfect finish. We look forward to going again. What a great addition to the neighborhood!
