The Smoke Point BBQ & Provisions Menu – San Juan Bautista, CA

Type : Restaurant

Location : San Juan Bautista, CA

Smoke Point BBQ & Whiskey Bar opened on November 11, 2020 with the goal of delivering San Juan Bautista new techniques to BBQ. These techniques are rooted in decades of experience using wood, time, and indirect BBQ smokers by owner Michelin starred Chef Jarad Gallagher. Gallagher opened Smoke Point largely because he felt out of touch with his community and basic principles of good quality food cooked well for friends and family in a fun environment.
We are currently operating within Covid restrictions and plan to fully rollout an all-American style BBQ restaurant this spring.

Based on 214 reviews, the restaurant has received a rating of 4.6 stars. Price $$

Disappointed. The thing that put The Smoke Point head and shoulders above all other BBQ places was the menu. The aged steak, the wagu, etc…yes, expensive but exquisite. These things still show up on the menu posted the website but are now apparently no longer available at the restaurant if our experience last weekend is the new norm. I can understand the shift away from lots of higher priced menu choices when the reviews are full of complaints about cost. But as a traditional BBQ restaurant, The Smoke Point was always and remains average. Some days are better than others, some days are worse. Average all the same and all the time. It was the fine dining options that made this place knoxk-your-socks-off. The staff is always wonderful –kind, friendly and good people. The experience was enjoyable but I want to enjoy the food when I go out, too. Sadly The Smoke Point in SJB has, for me, joined the ranks of places to go when I am getting home from work too late to cook. And I’ll probably rely more on grocery store stops or BBQ 152 take-out before that, to boot.

I visited with family. They grew up in Texas in what I dub BBQ land, and I did not. They didn’t much like the bbq, but I thought it was pretty decent. The staff was super sweet and it was a cute, small little place. Their ribs were some of the best I’ve had, and I ate them straight off the bone and I’m usually kinda picky about that. My family didn’t like it much, saying it wasn’t too tender. Overall it was pretty decent, and their Banana Pudding was really good. I ordered their Chocolate Mousse, and they put something spicy on the top and it was not great.

It was okay. Ordered the ribs and sausage… the ribs were on the dry side, and the sausage was just sad and cold. The brussels sprouts are as others have said it; individual leaves that were fried/baked and heavily seasoned.

Pretty good food! Cute design inside and nice people. We got all sorts of food and it was all fairly good. Good spot to go in this quaint little town

The food was unreal! Had a brisket sandwich (pictured), fries, and roasted brussel sprouts and everything was 10/10 phenomenal. We even got a tour of the smoker and got to see the smoke master at work. We’ll definitely be back in the near future.

We went to the Smoke Point following a raving recommendation from locals. Prior to going we did some research about the place as we were told the chef is a former Michelin Star restaurant chef. We were hooked when we read about the idea of Jarad Gallagher to offer „simple food, well prepared“.

The bbq was good but but nothing special. I was hoping for a little more considering the 4.6 star average review. Overall just good but lacked the smoky bbq flavor you would expect from TX type bbq. The service was the high point since they were courteous and respectful. The beer on tap was also good but was served in plastic cups. Later we were told we could request chilled glasses which will be something we do if we return. If you like dark beer their Old Rasputin is a great choice.

I had the beef brisket….it was really good and juicy. Fries were good but alittle salty. The people working there were super friendly. I would go back….

Food is great, service is great. They run out of the best items on the menu sometimes, so check first what they still have. Love the bbq though, the meat quality is on point!
