Checked into the Bidwell today and I am here all week. The lobby staff recommended the High Horse for dinner. First I waited to be seated and no one acknowledged me so I sat at the end of the bar. I made eye contact with one employee and assumed she would come by after she finished attended the other Patrons. Unfortunately, that never happened. I was at the end of the bar for 10:12 seconds from the time I sat down to the time I decided to leave. There were a total of 7 people in the entire restaurant including myself.

Atmosphere and food are fine, everything else leaves a lot to be desired. We went with a group of 7 and were the first ones in the restaurant, starting at 5:30pm. We did not leave until 9:15, and that wasn’t due to us hanging out enjoying coffees after dessert, that’s for sure. Each course took something like 30 minutes, and the entrees closer to an hour. When they arrived, they were ‘fine’, but nothing to write home about and definitely not worth waiting three hours for.

Decent drinks for a hotel bar. Convenient for those staying. As well as you get some money from the hotel for each night you are there to spend at the bar. Overall good deal. Probably wouldn’t walk off the street though.

We came here during Dumpling Week so we all got the truffle pierogis and they were AMAZING. I see lots of complaints about the food but this was one of my favorite dumpling week dishes I tried! The bread board was also tasty. The bar has a cool vibe and we all vowed to come back. Only downside was there was a weird 80s B horror film playing on the TV behind us and one of our friends was getting grossed out watching it. Maybe just check what’s playing on the tv and that there aren’t dismembered body parts during dinner

My girlfriend and I were very impressed with the food. We had the Caesar (with the chicken), gazpacho, mushroom streusel, and the chicken dinner. Everything was amazing! That chicken blew my socks off it was so FIRE. Service was amazing as well. Very friendly and attentive. We never had empty drinks or water glasses and food came out perfectly timed. We were pleasantly surprised by the whole thing as we’re from out of town and didn’t know what to expect. Definitely give it a shot.

Delicious eats and delightful service. I brushed my teeth shortly before coming downstairs which rendered my French red blend a bit minty… “Anna” noticed my discontent and quickly ran back to the kitchen, scrounged me up a couple slices of baguette and an oil/balsamic blend and saved the day. Thanks you!

Even though Google, all marketing materials, and even their own website (!!) say that they close at 10, they actually close at 9. So, when we walked in at 8:30pm, that would have been an ideal time to tell us they close in 30 minutes. Instead? Instead, we got to feel rushed, got told they were out of everything, and got served bleak, bland food and overpriced cocktails. Woof – just really not good.

Drinks and service were quite good, but the food was pretty awful and tasted as if it had come from the frozen section at Costco.

This morning’s visit (Monday) put a whole new light on High Horse, much brighter & cheerier than last night. Sole staffer, Amanda, polite, courteous & efficient with an excellent breakfast menu. Now it’s on my list of “go back to”!

I will start off that I am only giving 3 stars because the bar is actually nice and serves quality drinks. The restaurant on the other hand deserves 1 star. Food is greatly over priced for the quality and quantity. Literally, I have eaten multiple dishes here over multiple nights and all each time I received some of the most unappetizing food. So unappetizing I threw it away. I never throw away food, especially if I spent a lot of money on it. But the shear lacked of flavor and character, I would have just paid to staff to just finish for me. One dish in particular was the burrata dish. Just had a lovely version at this dish at the Marriot Austin Texas. I was excited to get it again when I saw it on the High Horse, but received a nock off brand version of it. I sadly ordered more food over time and they just continue to disappoint. There are much better restaurants around the area to spend your money at. If it wasn’t for the bar and the fact that the restaurant is a part of the Marriott hotel, I honestly wouldn’t think they would still be in business. I really hope this resonates with the kitchen staff. As a prior chef I take pride in my food, and I would want to hear the same if this was the quality my customers were receiving.
