4.7 stars to be more precise. Went here, great location, good atmosphere (local bar vibes is what’s up) food was good and fast. Lots of beer on tap, service was excellent and friendly. I’d definitely go back! I had the cheese curds which are nice and squicky and the salmon salad. Great value as well! Exceeded my expectations, and I am very particular about giving a place 5 stars.

This is a great spot to dine. We had a great waitress, who was very attentive and great with our kids. She was also knowledgeable of the menu and able to answer all our questions. Our food was hot and fresh when it arrived at our table. Don’t miss the opportunity to try Wisconsin’s number one cheese curds. These are light and creamy. Confusion, I’m not a fan of cheese curds, but I more than ate my half of this appetizer.

Smothered with succulent fruit, the Door County Cherry Salad came dangerously close to perfection. The Cheese Curds are entirely worthy of the high praise they have garnered, and are unequivocally the best I’ve had. Ambiance was casual and welcoming. Service was great. The Old Fashioned is a must-visit for anyone taking in the impressive state capitol in Madison.

Best cheese fries of my life. The beer cheese soup went way beyond expectations and the boys loved their sandwiches. I got the Cobb salad and didn’t expect much but was pleasantly surprised by the freshness and depth of flavor

Was highly suggested from multiple people to try The Old Fashioned. Overall, the place was decent, wait time was 45 minutes on a Thursday night, which was alright, considering how busy the place was (just walk around downtown to kill time). Service was good. The Old Fashioned felt a tad weak compared to some I’ve had in the past. The fried cheese curds were amazing. For my entrée, I ordered the combo fish and fries. The overall fish themselves lacked seasoning, but the fish were very fresh, especially the walleye and perch.

The food was outstanding I had the spicy burger and the cheese curds were no lie! I am not lying the best cheese curds I have had anywhere! Burger was good fried ok but the whiskey old fashion was off the hook! Service was outstanding and the ambience was good! I love the fact that they serve Hamms, Blatz, Miller high and Pabst life a staple of traditional bars in Wisconsin!

This establishment has earned its reputation for a reason. The full bar options with numerous takes on their namesake old fashioned. Servers were friendly and the patty melt was quite good though the fries could use some seasoning, like any at all. Atmosphere was a touch on the loud side but had fun signage on the wall as decoration. The rated #1 by Food Network cheese curds were good but better is to be had in the Madison area if that’s your desire.

Excellent food and service! We had the combo fish fry, cheese curds, tenderloin sandwich, and a summer sausage sandwich. Everything was awesome. I wish we had more time here in the state because we would definitely come back….until we meet again!
