We ordered from this place before.. and we were disappointed in the food quality and taste for the prices they charge … but we decided to give it another shot … and yet again ..a big miss .. I ordered the avocado toast which is $17. Based on the photo of the item and the price.. I assumed I’m going to get a decent amount of fresh crumbled Feta and a Side Salad. Nope. No side salad and the feta was a big afterthought .. they just sprinkled some low grade dried up feta with no taste. The whole grain bread tasted fake and gummy.. like something I would get in the bread isle at the grocery store. My husbands sandwich was also meh .. the menu seems creative enough.. but the taste and quality is mediocre at best for the prices they charge. The side potato hash was so salty we couldn’t eat it. Definitely not ordering from this place again. You can go anywhere else on Bloomfield Ave. and get a great tasting breakfast for half the price.

This place is good for coffee and pastries. I wouldn’t order anything else though. I paid $14 for the egg “bowl” (was not in a bowl) that ended up being a tiny scoop of eggs and toppings with a super small bowl of fries. I was still hungry when I finished eating. The server was nice though. Just change your pricing of your food or give bigger servings.

My partner and I came to Blue Hippo after a post on Instagram as “one of the best brunch spots” and that is honestly an understatement. This is THE best brunch spot in all of NJ. We had the obligatory cappuccino, a great start, followed by the croque monsieur, which wasn’t on menu but they were kind enough to make for us anyway, and the banana pudding French toast. The food was absolutely delicious, it took a bit longer than expected to come out after we ordered, but the inside was cute and gave us time to sip our coffee and chat. Plus the wait was worth it for the amazing food. We will absolutely be back every chance we get to try more of the great food here.

Fantastic experience here at Blue Hippo Coffee Co. The staff is super friendly and the interior vibes are perfect. Love the drinks. Tried an iced latte and iced lavender matcha latte. Both were delicious. The food was also great. Definitely recommend the breakfast bowl and biscuit sandwiches.

First off I liked exterior nice presentation, nice and clean. Entering the business is welcoming with a home vibe. It’s quite interesting seeing blue hippos around the store. Looking at the menu I had a hard decision but I chose the egg Sammy with an iced Chai tea on the side. Everything tasted really good and so fresh! The staff was really nice also. Definitely have to stop by again for the desserts!

I have never ever not left a tip before, and this restaurant was my first time which was so difficult to do. The service was atrocious and food wasn’t all that. It took 15 minutes after being seated to even receive a menu and be asked if we wanted anything to drink. I had to stand up and grab the menu myself and that’s when the waiter realized to ask if we wanted a drink. My food took 45minutes and people who came in after me got their food faster. At one point the waiter just kept ignoring my bids for her attention. The excuse was that they were busy & understaffed with only one cook, however I understand that and it is a terrible situation and very difficult. it’s not the customers responsibility to wait almost an hour for food due to understaffing. In those situations the restaurant should limit seating to only the capacity they’re able to cook for that day and serve to not ruin anyone else’s experience by trying to squeeze everyone in. The food was subpar and nothing special or tasty. My order came incorrect and my side never came with it, same for my friend who was with me. My black drip coffee also came cold twice and in almost 2 hours of being there (waiting so long for food & service) I only got 1 just ONE cup of water & the waiter ignored me when i’d try to get her attention to ask for more. Seems like it’s just locals with a low standard for food that come here. The manager waived 30% of our bill, considering my meal came late, incorrect, cold, and half of it was missing I’d never return. Lesly was our waiter, as it says on the receipt.

Great local cafe with a hip vibe. Pleasant and accommodating staff. Nice healthy menu with sweet pastries and scones as well. Loved the outdoor seating but not for a hot day like today. Cute couch arrangement in rear. For a minute I could have been in Park Slope or Saugerties. This one’s a keeper and just 2 mins from home.

In love with this cute coffee shop. I highly recommend the burrito if you are really hungry. For a later breakfast go with Huevos Rancheros. They iced Chai Latte was delicious. The staff was friendly and there’s plenty of sitting indoor and outdoor.
