Cute dinner car with good food, great service. Old time atmosphere. Always wanted to stop and glad we did!

We walked in on a Friday night not even after 10 p.m , considering it’s a 24 hour place it shouldn’t really matter. Asked the cashier if we could sit wherever, she asked if we were staying to which we replied yes. Her response was we aren’t serving the public.. Never heard of a such thing and there was like 2 people inside. Definitely won’t be going back if they don’t want the business.

Good food, great service. Can order in app, which I nice for a diner. Reminded me of a waffle house in the way it was laid out. Open 24 hours a day and breakfast was served all day.

It was very dirty. We were told to see ourselves. There were no extra chairs. Our smallest family member had to sit in a highchair. He barely fit. Tne lady, we saw her take menus back up front and fold silverware. She was sitting at the front desk doing nothing the rest of the time. A man with long hair hanging down sat in the front of the door. He came back to ask us if we needed anything else. We said we needed the bill. He never came back. We didn’t see a bill. Prices were not on the menu. She rang up the bill without us being able to see what she was putting on it. The cook did everything! He took our order, got us our drinks, cooked the food and brought it to us! So, he was basically doing everything himself! The food was very good. He brought things out as he made them. So, the food was hot when we got it. If it wasn’t for the cook, that place wouldn’t be able to stay open!

Came in about 9:20pm. Open sign was on. Asked if we could Seay ourselves and the woman at the front counter asked if we were staying at the hotel. We were not. She told us they were not serving the public that night. I’m not really sure how that makes sense. If you’re not serving to the public that should be made known then. Not sure why they couldn’t serve us considering there was only 2 other people eating. Im not sure how hard it is to cook up a few eggs and bacon but apparently it was very hard for whoever was cooking that night.

If you don’t know what I’m talking about I’ll explain. For those that do…… It’s the best greasy spoon I have been to in almost 40 years. Now for those that don’t understand…… A greasy spoon is a in the corner out of the way mom and pop restaurant. It’s small, but has great food. Don’t know if there are more Penny’s restaurants, but if not there needs to be. Less and less of these around these days. Reminded me of my childhood.

If you don’t see locals at a place? Don’t go. The only thing good about the place is it’s cute and the cook was trying her hardest. Our server brought the menu (pages stapled together with no prices), she took our order and got us drinks and the last time we saw her was when she dropped off the food without napkins or silverware. My husband had to go to the bathroom and get paper towels for us to use . The cook actually came over and asked if we needed refills. It was $36.00 for sandwiches, fries, and two drinks. I lied, the just time we saw the server was when we paid. They didn’t bring the bill. We had to go up to the register to ask. The food was fine but really not worth the price.

I would not recommend this place, keep driving a little farther for something else. Food tasted okay, I could have made the exact same thing at home. Burgers were greasy, so a pool on the plate. Also had a club which was very basic. Service was terrible and had no idea what to do. When we walked in the two workers were sitting on the counter and just stared at us as we walked in. Asked if we would be eating, he gave us a couple pieces of paper stapled together for a menu. We were ready to order for about 15+ minutes, did see a worker but did see an online order QR code on the table(which was probably from Covid). We ordered by website, then one worker came to ask if we were ordering and drinks. Told him we ordered online cause nobody was around, which apparently ordering online was not the right thing to do cause it makes it harder for him. Took 20+ minutes for food to be served cause it was just a young adult making everything, with a few other customers there. The other guy there was doing nothing and just watching. Couldn’t get refills cause he was busy or just walked away(hidden) once he was done cooking. Sooo yeah not good, not worth it.

They went above normal service and took time to prepare my food the way I like it. Staff was friendly and cheerful and the restaurant was very clean. Im so happy I came to eat here! Darnel was very personable and helpful on scanning their menu from a QR code. Dillon is a fantastic chef, he even came to my table to make certain he understood how I liked my food prepared. Cannot say enough about this diner!! Very inpressed!! My grandmother owned a restaurant and my uncle is a gourmet chef. I’ll be back several times during my visit to MN.
