Amazing place. The sushi chef rotates, so you may not get the same experience we had, but our impression was that it was pretty spectacular — best sushi experience we’ve had outside of Japan.

Went this past week for their Kaiseki Sushi dinner. They surpassed expectations( as they are mainly a sake brewery). To our great surprise the couple that ran “Restaurant Yao” ( one of our all time favorite mom&Pop, places) were behind the sushi counter. Would highly recommend. And the sake is great too.

I had a fantastic experience at this restaurant! The food was super delicious from start to finish. It was my first time trying a sake based Japanese hotpot and it exceeded my expectations. Hiroko did an excellent job explaining to me the origins and ingredients of each dish. She was so friendly and funny. Shasaku did a perfect job preparing the dishes in the kitchen. Finally, it was pleasure to be able to speak to Toma, the co-owner of the place. They turned this into one of my best dining experiences in years. Thank you!

My wife and I just had our anniversary dinner here! We were completely blown away by the quality of the food, sake, and service. Tama, Chiaki, and Ikko we’re wonderful hosts. Even though they were very busy, they always took time to stop by our table and share a bit about the sake or food they were serving. The food was fabulous. It felt healthy and full of care like home cooking, but delicious and well made like a professional chef. It was only outdone by the sake. When Tama served the sake they had just pressed earlier that day, it redefined my understanding of sake. Just that one glass would have made the evening worth it. It was excellent. We will definitely be going back again.

Such a great find! On a back alley in the Kakaako District, the brewery is tiny but stands out with its colorful mural display of a shark eating a swimmer. Inside, the space is small and you can see the machines where they make the sake. The tastings are reasonably priced and we went all in with four seven-taste pours. It was worth it to try everything they had to offer! Tama Hirose expertly walked us through the tasting, and I was thrilled to find that the brewmaster is female. Chiaki Takahashi opened the small batch brewery at the start of the pandemic, and they rely on word of mouth for customers. It’s definitely a must-visit when you come to Oahu. We ended up taking four bottles home.

Absolutely delicious. It’s byob but the sake and omakase pairing is definitely worth it.

Great local sake. The staff are extremely friendly. Hearing the details of each sake being brewed at this location is fascinating. I’ll definitely be back to pick up more sake.

2022.12: Good news bad news. Good: They still make sake. Bad: you either need to goto Kona for the for their distillery experience or make it a pricy night out in Chinatown. You can still buy their sake retail in Kakaako at the sake store around the block.

Great food and service! Only issue is they do not sell alcohol and customers have to bring their own.

$120 for a sushi omakase experience plus BYOB is honestly a great price for an 18-coursed meal. Hanale is very unique for the Downtown Honolulu area and it has been on my radar for quite some time! The original location in Kaka’ako specialized in house made sake with food pairings but this restaurant now offers sushi which can be paired with any sake you can bring. They even partnered with The Sake Shop where you can buy at the store and they will deliver it straight to Hanale for you!
