When I first started going to Gilbens, the food was good. As I kept going back the food started to get worse . I have had the macaroni and cheese, ribs, stuffin, broccoli, yams, stuffed salmon, fried salmon all at different times. The last time I ordered from there was a couple of weeks ago. I ordered the fried salmon, got it home it was dried out. It was like, they had that order sitting and when I called for it, they put it back in the oil to sell it. I thought that I was eating fried chicken gizzards. I called the restaurant and explained what was going on. Took the food back. Spoke to the young man about it again. He had the nerve to say that my order of the fried salmon will come out the same way. I told him that I have had that fried salmon at least six times and it never came back looking like fried chicken gizzard. The last time I was there, I took pictures of that food. Someone is burning that food up and it’s a shame. I will not be returning to that restaurant ever again. It is so hot in there they have big fans blowing around hot air. On my last visit there, I called about 12:30, mind you they are suppose to open at 12 noon. I called no answer, I went in, the girl asked me can i come back in fifteen minutes because they are still prepping the food. Do you believe that? It was almost 1pm then. You try to support the black restaurants but look what they do to us. I have more stories but, this is all for now. Smh

I so want to support a brown business , but the food experience continues to worsen with each try. Ive left the thought that it was a bad day, that doesnt seem to make a difference. Mediocre food at best. Only ordered because online platform stated Jamaican Da was out of fried fish. Today was my last try. Vegetables overcooked to mush, salty. Fried Salmon are small bites of salmon fried- mediocre. Fried fish – slightly salty. Rice could be fluffier. When you pay $20+ per platter, not including delivery fees…not worth the price.

This is a great place to come for your soul food cravings. They give you so much food for two days! I recently tried the teriyaki chicken with stuffing and cabbage as my sides. It was delicious. The teriyaki was a little too sweet. Crystal had great customer service and so did the cashier guy. And of course, it’s black owned!

First time ordering. I got the whiting platter with yams and the 5 cheese Mac & cheese. The fish was too salty and the yams was super sweet i was a Little disappointed since I’ve seen the whiting fish was the best/the favorite. But, the Mac & cheese was great! The portions were great too.

Ribs were old, rubbery, and had no smoke flavor,. They were wrapped in foil swimming in grease. The fried fish was not good either. The sides were mediocre at best. Was my first and last time ordering from this restaurant. I’m not happy to waste money. The platters ended up in the trash . So disappointed. Should have checked the reviews before ordering. The ones about the ribs are dead on.

I don’t know about anyone else’s experience and I can’t believe the negative reviews. I recently ordered the smothered chicken, garlic mash potatoes, and string beans. It was delicious and more than enough food. I could’ve shared the platter if I wanted to but I had more to next day and ate every bit of it.

I ordered a rack of ribs. The menu shows the cost of a rack of ribs is $18.00. When it was time to pay for my order the cashier said she had to go ask someone else who worked there for the price of the ribs. I thought this was strange. When she came back, she told me with a smirk on her face that the ribs would cost $24.00. Then a male who worked there stepped up to the register and told the cashier that the ribs are $30.00. I told the woman that the menu says the ribs are $18.00. She told me that was the old menu. I asked her for an updated menu. She told me they don’t have any. How they went from $18.00 to $30.00 ($12.00 difference) sounds dishonest. They ought to be ashamed of themselves for playing gospel music in the background while robbing people at the register.

I used to come in here every week. But the food has definitely gone downhill. It all looks delicious, but everything is TOO SALTY. Hypertension already runs in my family. I don’t want to give it any help.
