I was looking for a quick and affordable snack until dinner and that is not easy to find in Waikiki. I gave this dim sum place a try and I couldn’t have been happier. It was between meals so the place was dead. Very clean and everybody was nice. They took my order quickly and within five minutes my food started to arrive. Everything was served hot and fresh. Taste was very good, the dim sum was a little on the small side and none of the tables had chili oil, otherwise I would have given the food a 5.

What’s not to love about this place. Super fast and efficient service and great dim sum. We ordered a bunch of plates and everything was delicious. The only thing I didn’t care for was the char siu bao. The outside of the bao was too sweet for my taste but the rest we ordered was on par with some of the best dim sum I had. It’s probably sight more expensive than restaurants outside of Waikiki but that’s the price you pay for eating in a prime location.

A lot of dishes photographed not available. Despite being “chef” recommended the short ribs in blackpepper were so tough / chewy & stringy. Still picking them from my teeth. Pork fried noodles nice but super oily. I love fresh oily noodles— these werent fresh. They were dry and congealed tasting. The signature baked pork buns with sugar pastry needed more filling but was okay. Would not recommend for dimsum — better options

If you didn’t know, Tim Ho Wan has a Michelin star in Hong Kong. We’re spared the trouble to wait in line for hours like people do in Hong Kong. The service is quick and courteous. I usually order the shrimp dumplings, shrimp dumplings, turnip cake, spicy wonton, shrimp Look Fun. I would hold to order the snow charshiu buns at the end which I enjoy as dessert. Excellent place for dim sum.

We decided to take in some dim sum at Tim Ho Wan in Waikiki. We ordered the dim sum staples. Tim Ho Wan in Hong Kong earned a Michelin star so we were expecting some good things. Strangely we were not given tea but asked if we only wanted ice water. The dim sum came fast. Like really fast. 5mins. They did not even cut our rice rolls or beef balls. A few of the har gar wrappers were already broken. The turnip cake was cold. The chicken feet was underwhelming. I was expecting something amazing from this abalone sauce. It definitely had a seafood base to it but the traditional black bean/ chu hou sauce is probably better. The sticky rice was the best offering here. Saucy and packed with flavor and lots of stuffing. Definitely overrated dim sum. Recommend trying another dim sum house first.

We didn’t notice this place until our last night in Waikiki. The sign was up in the air and my wife commented about the “specialists” in the tagline.

Went on a Friday night. Took about 15-20 minutes to get the food served. Now I was craving some cheung fun so looked specifically for a place that had dim sum for dinner. Disappointingly, the rice noodle wraps on the cheung fun were too thick and the containing pieces too small. Normally the shrimp cheung fun contains whole shrimp, but this one had small-diced shrimp pieces. Also, the sauces are too diluted for cheung fun, lettuce head, chicken feet, and garlic vermicelli shrimp (the vermicelli didn’t even pick up flavor): if they were thicker every dish would taste better. The pork chops, spicy wontons, and egg yold sesame balls were relatively better but still not great compared to other dim sum places I’ve been to, whether those be fancier or hole-in-the-wall places. By the way, they only had two veggie dim sums, one of which, the gai lan, was unavailable at dinner time, so we were left with ordering the lettuce head. Expected more in terms of taste and options from a dim sum restaurant at Royal Hawaiian.

Siu Mai (excellent) Pork Dumplings (great) Pan fried char siu noodles (good) short ribs (good) cucumber (good) spring rolls (great) beef balls (good) bean curd (good) turnip cake (good) steamed garlic shrimp (ok). chicken rice (good) lava dessert (excellent) tapioca dessert (great)

The food was not all that good. This used to be a good place to eat. The moment you have to ask for chili oil because it’s not on the table is an indication they don’t even trust their customers. Oh well… hello China town.

Make sure they have the dishes you crave for before seating. There were a lot of dishes that were out already at 2 pm.
