Serafina is a little gem of a restaurant, perched on top of Nob Hill, with views overlooking the city and Bay Bridge. Serafina was owner Maurizio Bruschi’s grandmother, and the name of her eponymous restaurant in the heart of Trastevere (Rome), where Maurizio first began making pizza at the age of 14. The executive chef is Umberto Cannarsa, a successful chef from Rome, who left his own restaurant in Rome to work with Maurizio again. The menu offers everything, including vegetarian options, but specializes in innovative Italian fish dishes, including fresh calamari, stuffed with olives, escarole, anchovies, drizzled with a potato leek sauce, as well as homemade pastas and dolci. The space is warm and elegant.
Cozy, homestyle restaurant with hearty Italian cuisine & a robust wine list, plus alfresco seating. Based on 204 reviews, the restaurant has received a rating of 4.7 stars. Price

Absolutely wonderful experience! 10/10 highly recommend if you’re in San Francisco. The owners were so friendly and personable and they did all the serving themselves. My husband and I came here to celebrate our anniversary and we are so happy we did. If we’re ever back in the area, we will definitely be back! Romantic atmosphere, quick and efficient service, and delicious, authentic Italian food.

2 years ago was our first visit and today we finally made it back. We flew in from Phoenix just to have dinner at Serafina. Food is delicious and worth the one day trip!

Homey, authentic Italian spot with delicious food. Came here for dinner on a Sunday evening and made a reservation online beforehand. We ended up adding more people to our group, and they kindly accommodated us by putting our tables together. Our waiters were very friendly and warm. We split various dishes so we got to try a bunch of things. The calamari was grilled and tasted super fresh. The Ceasar salad was simple and also similarly intense in its freshness. The lasagna was my favorite pasta – very warm and comforting. The pappardelle with crab tasted light and the crab was a tad on the saltier side, but it offset the sweetness of the tomatoes. The gnocchi was the table’s favorite. The prosciutto and mushroom pinsa is a good thing to split and is one of the most popular dishes.

The atmosphere is like you are in Italy . The service is superb and very generous with the sourdough bread and olive oil vinger.

This place is great! A little out of the way and on top of one of the hillier parts of San Francisco, but this place is worth the trek!

Extraordinary services from the owner and host regarding how busy the restaurant could be. Our group were having a great time throughout the time at Serafina. Thank you so much for the wonderful birthday celebration with delicious fresh food and yummy wines.

Not recommended. Servers were polite and pizza was better than expected due to its crunchy base. However, all of the lasagna, prawn pasta, burrata, clam shell pasta and tiramisu were unremarkable for the price. Combined with notoriously difficult parking, I wouldn’t go back. Ambience was cosy but again unremarkable. If considering Serafina, check out Beretta or Cotogna instead.
