Our dinner at Hege’s was definitely worth reviewing. All of the food was so well balanced and flavorful. We had the French onion soup which was a bit heavier than usual but very flavorful. We also had the beef stroganoff special and the seafood pan roast. Both were 10/10. Drinks were a little too strong and Smokey tasting for my liking but I was happy the waitress noticed and quickly suggested something else I would prefer. The espresso martini made up for the other drinks. Michaela was a great waitress and took the time to advise us about the area since it was our first visit. Great service. Interior could use a remodel sooner than later and the A/C could most definitely be cooler but besides that it was a great experience and we would go back.

Stopped here quite by accident as I’m only here for two days. I love French food and Hege’s did not disappoint! Started with the house pate and it was divine! Rich and flavorful. As I am solo, looking forward to the rest for brunch tomorrow.

Hege’s was the perfect spot for me and my husband to share our first dinner as a married couple! We had Michaela as our server. She was so attentive and offered great suggestions for each course and even poured us some celebratory champagne! We would highly recommend Hege’s for any occasion but especially for couples who come to Kiawah for their honeymoon!

I had a phenomenal dining experience at Hege’s! Located in Freshfields Village, this restaurant offers French cuisine with southern influences. The Halibut dish is one of the best dishes I’ve eaten in the Charleston area! The fish was prepared flawlessly and the rice complimented the fish perfectly. Our waiter was very friendly and happy to give reccomendations. Our table also enjoyed the fried green tomatoes with salsa verde, the calamari, and the mahi entree. Do not leave without a slice of the peanut butter pie for dessert!

Mountains Are Best
First the bad news. We had a bad reaction to the snurl of many of the other diners. Definitely an us and them, either admire or look down your nose situation. One review cited velvet rope syndrome, perfect description. The wait staff seemed encouraged to sell as much as service, but were mostly efficient. We had appetizer, no drinks and two dinners for $170, so they’re living up to high end.

One of our favorite restaurants we have ever been to! The food is consistently fantastic (and we have eaten most everything on the menu), but highly recommend the daily specials. Amazing cocktails and wine too. What sets it even further apart are the people! Year over year, the employees have remained the same, which says a lot about the restaurant and management. They provide the highest level of service, remember you, and truly make for the most enjoyable, special experience. We always feel like they go out of their way for us. Cannot say enough!

Hege’s is a unique dining experience that is hard to get in this day and age. Just to put it plainly, this place is pricey but if you go to Kiawah this is already known. The food is excellent, the service is top notch with some of the employees being there for quite some time. If you got the means you should at least try it out. I go there at least once every summer on vacation. Make a reservation if you can in advance. Hope you find this helpful.

I’ve tried twice to give Hege’s a try and each time it’s been mediocre. When you walk in it’s not overly welcoming like you’d expect from a restaurant with food prices this high. The ordering process seems very rushed. The food is basically anything drenched in butter. Fish, steak, vegetables – all just a lot butter. It’s sadly the only restaurant in freshfields that courts with “fine” dining so there isn’t much competition. It’s not bad, but it’s just not good either. Again – with prices this high I’d expect exceptional.

We had a very nice family Dinner. The starters were delicious and very different from each other: The paté, the mussels and the calamari, everything was very well prepared.
