For someone like myself who isn’t a big steak eater this place was absolutely delicious. I ordered a well done filet… yes a well done! It was made to perfection. The steak was so tender and juicy filled with tons of flavor. The sides were the perfect size. The grilled shrimp was so also very tasty. I highly recommend this place. Perfect for a date night.

Simply delicious, worth the price!! This was our first visit and we loved it!! From the first step you take when you enter to the last one when you leave. The employees do know how to provide their service, all of them, without excluding someone, treated us super well. The food is scrumptious, starting with the drinks to dessert. On this visit, Omar was in charge of our drinks, and he was attentive ALL the time, honestly, the treatment he gave us was amazing, always checking if everything was fine or if we need anything. Now, the steaks are from another world, tasty, tender and juicy. You have to keep in mind that they are not cheap, if you are going to eat a good steak you are going to have to pay. I recommend making a reservation in advance as it gets very crowded. There is no valet parking, so get there a little early so you can look for parking around. I would definitely go back and recommend it.

Such an awesome place! I’m sad I discovered it only after a year living in SD. Delightful atmosphere, relatively small and cozy place, welcoming stuff, also it’s noticeable that people care about the food their serving. This place has a great menu and selection of drinks. My medium rare steak was so great, and the desserts… my browny was a heaven! I enjoyed this place and restaurant experience a lot. Definetly recommend!

This might be my new favorite downtown restaurant. The rustic dishes, generous portions and incredible flavors, especially from the wood fired grill, are exceptional. I ordered everything on the starter menu to get a nice flavor tour, plus three desserts. The meatballs are fire smoked and crazy good. Always add the off-menu “surf’n’turf” option if available (yummy wood-fired shrimp). Service was great for what was a busy night.

Best steakhouse and butcher shop in all of downtown. Located off the beaten path, Cowboy Star has one of the best atmospheres, service and elevated menu you will find. Also, they have the best Happy Hour! Monday through Friday 3-6! Get their early or there will be nowhere to sit in the bar area.

First time visiting. Great food experience here. Whatever you order you’ll enjoy. Though on the pricy side it is worth the food experience. I recommend asking for the kitchen bar area if you will like to see how the chefs prepare all the meals. I highly recommend especially for first time visitors. Your taste pallet will thank you.

Delicious steak and tiramisu. The friendly bandit cocktail was wonderfully smoky. Classy but comfortable atmosphere.

This was our first time to Cowboy Star this past weekend. My parents were with us from out of town and we wanted to take them somewhere nice. We were all very impressed with our experience! Josh, our server, was arguably the best server any of us have ever had. He was very patient with us, had excellent recommendations, we didn’t feel rushed, etc. The food was the best we’ve had in The Springs so far too. The appetizer bacon (pork belly) is a must try! Days later, everyone is still talking about it. Everyone’s steaks were cooked to perfection. We all had different cocktails and they were all great. I highly recommend the one with the pineapple and rum…it was on the first page of their cocktail menu. It was so smooth and delicious, not to mention, very unique! My husband’s Old Fashioned was also great!! There wasn’t a single complaint the whole night from the table! The attention to detail at this place was unlike anything we’ve had locally. We will be back!

Man downtown San Diego has a lot more homeless emcampments than usual especially the streets around Cowboy Star. Anyways we went into, had a reservation and was seated shortly. The have a nice bar area in front on the left side and a nice seating area next to a grill on the right side, then a long hallway to where all the tables are. We started off getting the C-Star Signature Steak Tartare (hand chopped tartare is prepared to order with capers, shallots and parsley, topped with a quail egg, served with toasted baguette) and the Cowboy Star Bread Service (house made parker hosue rolls served warm with soft whipped butter). I really liked this Tartare and one of the best in San Diego but I think the best is Born and Raised. Then we all ordered the 14 oz Dry Aged Off The Bone Ribeye (35 day dry age) with a side of Mac and Cheese (C-Star favorite with smoked garlic, bourbon shallots, and bacon lardons). It was nice because the steaks came with Asparagus and Mashed Potatoes. The steak was an incredible quality cut of meat, seasoned perfectly, cooked medium well and had an amazing crust but soft texture on the inside. My favorite side was the Mac and Cheese, it was on the heavier side but the bacon lardons were incredible. After we ordered the Chocolate Chip Bread Pudding (house made brioche with chocolate chips, topped with warm butterscotch sauce and dark chocolate ice cream). This was the most popular dessert and made extremely well. Overall great restaurant, steaks were amazing and side of Mac and Cheese was the best. Great service and food, would highly recommend.
