While visiting family in Solon Springs we decided to try the Hog Wild. After reading a few review, mostly great, the few bad reviews put us off a bit. We decide to try it anyway and are very glad we did. We were immediately seated and drinks were there shortly. The choices of seating was table, high top, bar or outside. The menu, specials, drink choices were all explained very pleasantly. And most importantly, the food was great. The poutine cajun mac, BBQ chicken ranch salad and the one pound loaded potato were terrific. The presentation and service was spot on and the ambiance comfortable. All in all a very nice evening. Pretty cool little Smokehouse, they start you off with complimentary pork rinds w/sauce. The rinds were dusted with a nice seasoning and paired well with the smoke pepper bbq sauce. I then decided to try the pork belly bites, tossed in a sweet sauce (with a little heat on the backend), and pineapple chunks. They were very tasty and definitely would order again. I shipped breakfast so I decided to go with the I had the Boar Burger, burger topped pulled pork, thick cut apple smoked bacon, smoked cheddar, sliced smoked sausage, house bbq sauce and onion tanglers. It was very filling and satisfying, I really did not need the order of fries with it! Very good food and service. You definitely need to check this place out!

I wish I could give this place 10 stars! While visiting this weekend, we ate here twice… and would have made it three if we could have made it back in time before closing last night. As NC natives, we are very picky about our BBQ… and this place is 1000% legit. We knew we were in for a treat when we pulled in and saw smoke rolling from the top of the smoker out back. The parking lot smelled divine. Once inside, we were greeted by very friendly staff. Our waitress, Cassie, was fabulous. She did a great job of explaining all the specials and recommending wonderful choices. I had the fish special- the fried walleye. Our son had the potato stuffed with all the good things, and my husband had the meat platter with pulled pork, brisket, sausage and ribs. Typically, a place can do one or two of those well and they limp by on the rest. Not Hog Wild. All four of their smoked meats were melt in your mouth delicious. The fried fish was cooked perfectly and had a depth of flavor that was definitely not your typical fish fry. Let’s move on to discuss the sauces… when we sat down, we were greeted with a basket of pork rinds and we tried all of the BBQ sauces on the table. Again, not a single one of them was in the mediocre category. They were all delicious and had complex layers of flavor to them. The smoked pepper sauce was our favorite but the others were close seconds. The loaded mashed potatoes that came with the walleye were scrumptious and the portion size was just right. Now we get to the stars of the show for us. We’ve already established that these folks can smoke meat and that they do that very well. But I’m here to tell you that the cornbread with jalapeño butter and the Mac and cheese were show stoppers. As a southern girl, I know my way around both of these things. That was the BEST cornbread I’ve ever eaten. (Sorry grandma… but it was.). It was moist with the perfect combination of sweet and salty. The jalapeño butter took things to a next level. I asked for the recipe and promised that I was from far away and wouldn’t be any competition , but left empty handed. The Mac and cheese was out of this world. My son said it was the best he’d ever eaten, and even though he’s eaten at my table for 21 years, I wasn’t offended in the least, because he was right. It was the best he’s ever tasted.. me too! When I say we were sad to miss the chance for a 3rd night in a row, you know this place is good. If you are within a 90 mile drive, it is worth every penny of gas to get there. We might even consider a return trip from NC just for another round of all that goodness!

Absolutely loved everything about this place. A gem in the Northwoods! Specialty drinks, fabulous food…..Sandy was a great bartender! We live almost 2 hours away and went back the following weekend with family!

Party of 6 and everyone LOVED their food- two 4 meat platters, 2 bbq sandwiches, half rack and a burger. Started the meal with spicy seafood dip with pita chips, enjoyed every single bite of this treat!

I enjoyed everything about my visit. We took a weekday road trip for my sons bday as his selection and looped up to take in Superior after also. The sides I chose with the full rack of ribs which were done so the bone came out but with a tug, were the beans and loaded garlic mashed potatoes. The beans had nice chunks of brisket in them and a nice smokey sweet taste and the cheesey garlic potatoes were leaving wanting more. Price is comparable to most places like this but this was worth it.
