We walked in and out were seated at the bar. Lindsay waited on us and she was absolutely fantastic! Friendly, great recommendations, and knowledgeable about the area. I’m so glad we made this our first stop for our anniversary weekend. The food also was superb. We didn’t get much, but from what we had, I’m confident the rest of the menu is just as fabulous.

Called ahead to ensure we could dine outside (we decided to bring our dog).

Great place, totally worth checking out. Don’t miss out on the octopus; this is my barometer for a good tapas place and they do it just right, tender and flavorful. Serrano ham paired with some goat cheese and sourdough bread, likewise excellent.

WOW! We loved our meal at Malagon. This had been on our list to try for awhile after eating at Chez Nous but had we known it was going to be as good as it was we would have gone sooner!! This the full package – they helped us adjust our reservation due to a delayed flight, welcomed us and had us wait as a standing bar while our table cleared out, and then provided AWESOME recommendations on what to order, and how much to order. Every single thing we had was perfect. We have family that lives in Spain and thus have had a good amount of Spanish food and this was right up there with the best of it. Last, and certainly not least, were the desserts. We thought about them all week and the cheesecake and churros were the best any of us had ever had. A huge thank you to Malagon for the experience and keep up the great work! HIGHLY recommend.

Amazing food, great service. Patio was small but enjoyable and it was well-shaded for a great afternoon meal.

i visited malagon in june. sat at the bar alone and was completely blown away by the food and the service. i chatted with the manager, rosie for a bit who suggested i finish my meal with a slice of the basque cheesecake. and now im writing this review because i fell in love with cheesecake that day. the tapas were excellent as well. i had the wonderfully seasoned patata bravas which were served as a deconstructed dish, the orange tuna salad (i believe i told the waitress it was the “most yum thing id had in a long time”), and the grilled octopus which sadly was too charred for my liking……. but that basque cheesecake, i’d get on a plane and go back for just that.

This was truly so bad, and I’m sad to say it as I had done a lot of research and read this was the best tapas in Charleston. We started out with the sobrasada con queso (2 little buns with goat cheese spread, chorizo, and honey) – this was OK and ranked as the best thing we ordered. The octopus and the gambas were both grilled but had absolutely no flavor. There was no seasoning, there was no sauce – they were just completely lacking. Last up was the beef cheeks which was a tiny block of meat for $35 which again didn’t have any kind of taste (was so over it by that point that I didn’t even take a picture). The best thing I ate was the complimentary corn nuts they bring you upon arrival. I travel to Spain often for work and I have to say this was one of the worst meals I’ve had in the last decade, anywhere in the world. Insanely overpriced on top of being super bland. Left starving. Definitely give this one a pass.

The best food we had on our 3 day weekend in Charleston. As we ate my girlfriend turned to me and said “I want to bring everyone I love here”. ❤️. Sit at the bar, relax, enjoy. Amazing. Definitely leave room for the cheesecake.

This was my first time in Charleston and our group hadn’t put much thought into dinner. Tapas sounded like a good idea so our group headed out. Malagón had a quite extensive menu which accommodated the group. The prices varied a bit, so you can easily end up with an expensive bill. We were able to balance indulging in a few unique things and some more affordable items. It’s a neat little space suitable for small groups or intimate dining.
