While the food was good here, wait staff automatically brought chips and salsa at the beginning without mentioning that there is a charge for those items. While it’s printed on the menu, one might not know that until seeing it later on the menu. Please ask your staff to ask guests in advance if they would like chips, and explain that there is a charge. This is the only restaurant that seems to charge for chips and salsa.

This restaurant is amazing! We enjoyed our first date night since having our baby. The food and drinks were great. Our waitress was so sweet and all the staff were super accommodating. The Carne asada is AMAZING! We can never find Carne asada that meets our standards and this definitely HAS! The nachos were amazing as well. We will definitely return! Thank you for giving us such a great night out!

Agave is a small quaint Mexican bistro hidden on state st in downtown Newburyport. Comfortable setting and delightful menu. I opted for the street tacos that were absolutely phenomenal. Alongside the tacos I ordered a grilled Cesar salad with grilled veggies on top! My goodness that was one of the best salads I have EVER eaten. I highly recommend this venue if you’re a foodie like myself. Fresh ingredients that are well put together is a win win. The service is a little slow which is why I am unable to give the final star. However the satisfaction of this visit was undeniable! tDon’t take my word for it go and see for yourself!

Outdoor seating and big portions. Took advantage of a beautiful Sunday afternoon. There wasn’t a wait even though they were busy. I ordered the Baja tacos and I didn’t leave hungry! Fish was fresh and very lightly fried perfectly. I’ve never had so much fish in a taco which was a nice surprise. I just wasn’t ‘wowed’ by the plain cabbage and cheese. I’m a slaw girl; I like a little extra flavor and juice or crema on a taco so I will say not my favorite in the area. Beans, rice, and pico topped me off.

I walked in and said 5 people. The hostess said it would be a 10 minute wait so I said that was fine. Then she told me to wait, and it was now a 20 minute wait. Directly after that she said 45 minutes. This was in a 1 minute exchange. So we left because we couldn’t get a straight answer and went to Port Vida. I highly recommend Port Vida, food was very good and authentic. Just a short walk from Agave.

This place is a C+ Mexican restaurant with A+++ pricing. It tries with little effort to be something it’s not, good… We ordered chorizo queso, it was basically market basket Shredded cheese on top of crumble chorizo. it was greasy and awful. Our fajitas were okay and the best part was we had a air conditioning unit above us blowing black mold all over us while we ate. If it wasn’t for Molly, our waitress being wonderful. This would be a one star. Overrated overpriced Don’t go here. The manager offered us the price of two drinks off for having them blown on with mold for the whole time. Oh and the nice crispy chips were wicked stale and the $20 drinks were junk. Will never go back
