After 2 visits I think Ajja has become my favorite restaurant in Raleigh. The food is spectacular and unlike anything else. The atmosphere is perfect for an intimate dinner. I’m still dreaming about the tomato plate and the mango dessert. Some of the best food I’ve had in a while!

It was a rainy Saturday evening. We were excited to learn the chef behind the amazing garland had finally opened a new spot, so came here.

So happy about this new spot! Got to try it a few days after the opening, and thoroughly enjoyed! Very fresh food. Ambiance and decor is exceptional as well.

We loved Garland and so had high hopes for Ajja, it lived up to expectations and then some. The food and flavor profiles had us savoring every bite. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable. Paul was making his rounds and chatting up the guests. Ajja will be a regular staple for us.

We were fans of Garland Raleigh, so we’re naturally excited to be at Ajja— we didn’t get disappointed with the explosion of flavors! Three dishes are perhaps a sweet spot for sharing between 2 people!

Thank goodness Cheetie Kumar and Co are back! Ajja is Mediterranean rather than Indian, but you can still sense Cheetie’s intimate knowledge of spices. There are great cocktails and a very nice beverage list with wine, beer and liquor. Service is informed and efficient and well paved. The atmosphere is mostly a year round outdoor space that is very hip and comfortable. There are a nice selection of snacks, small dishes and a smaller list of large plates. This is a restaurant where you should share food. Finally the posses was delicious as a finishing sweet. Only issue is parking. You can park in the lot before you get to Ajja, the lot inside the gate right next to the electric supply building or on the street. Will be back!

I’ve never been sadder to post a poor review, because I was so enamored of Garland. I waited months for a reservation and immediately loved the vibe. The service and ambiance were fantastic, but, sadly, the food was not. We had the lamb croquette – don’t be fooled; this is closer to a kibbeh than a croquette. It was good but not amazing. The pickled vegetables were fine. But the mains were just disappointing. We ordered the shrimp and it was somehow only a few actual (overcooked) shrimp – the rest of the plate was filled with tails. The mushrooms were fine but not amazing; the short ribs were not great. Out of 10, it was at most a 5. The view was amazing, the service was good and the vibe was fun – drinks were adequate. We probably won’t go back, unfortunately.

I am a fan! Raleigh needs more spots like this. Creative, flavorful, fun, bright and on top of that, great service, wine and prices. It is casual, it has a magical low key chic vibe. The grilled lamb was my favorite, but the squash, the escabeche and the dessert were absolutely fantastic too. Love going to restaurants were the food is memorable. I paired my dinner with a Pinela from Slovenia that was refreshing enough for the yummy food and the rainy day, but probably next time I’ll go with the Assyrtiko. Love the diversity on the wine list. They definitely spent quality time putting together this gem. Well done!

Dreamy vibes and delicious food. Amazing vegetarian options (hello, halloumi stuffed squash!), but if you’re a meat eater, don’t skip the lamb kebab and the spare ribs. And the bread! ✨
