We offer fresh Japanese small bites and sushi using fresh and sustainable ingredients. We love the flavors and concept we’ve developed with our team and absolutely enjoy sharing it with others.
Our family owns several other restaurants in the Bay Area that are full-sized seated establishments. Akemi Sushi in the Castro Valley Marketplace is our very first pick-up and go concept. We hope to succeed in providing customers with great food that they can enjoy in the comfort of their own home with their families.

Food was very average and the portions were small. Spent $150 for a family of 5, it fed 3. This place would be great for a quick bite while at the Market itself. I won’t go out of my way in the future to order and take it home.

If you live around Castro Valley, San Leandro, or Hayward and want a delicious Lion King roll, please come by here and try theirs. The best I’ve had so far in my life. I also love their Truffle Blue fin roll, their ikura and Hotate Nigiri.

Fish is sliced so thinly in the “salmon blossom roll” – there’s hardly any fish in this roll, but yet it costs $18

Very good and fresh sushi. I’m not sure if I’m out of touch or what but the pricing seems a bit steep. $38 for 2 rolls seems high to me but at least it’s good. The location of the store is very convenient and there’s other food spots nearby in case someone in the family doesn’t want sushi.

Ok sushi, fast service. Clean place. Difficult to find inside a store or food hall type of set up. Overall cool vibe though

After nearly leaving upon arrival as we learned there was only outside seating and had to change table several times to get warmth. We had reservations we decided to stay since it has been rated so highly. Should have gone with our first gut feeling. Seaweed salad good however didn’t seem very fresh. Ordered beer not so cold. Order chicken appetizer room temperature and tons of breading hardly any chicken to speak of Then our Sashimi came wow I guess we’re spoiled it was the smallest pieces we’ve seen since restaurants reopened. The Lion King roll was hardly warmed through and several pieces had crab shell. My husband said at least you know it was real crab ? I offered this info to the server/ hostess she said I’m sorry I’ll tell the chef. It was the smallest Lion King role I have ever received at any Japanese restaurant laughable actually. The spider roll was a similar small size certainly not worth the $18 this restaurant is charging. We agree with other reviews here they are way overpriced. My husband and I dine out a lot and never leave tough reviews however we both decided this restaurant warranted our thoughts. Very disappointing especially when we used Google for the top sushi restaurant in Castro Valley. We clearly won’t make this mistake again at the cost of over $100. Not one of the pictures on this site Port what they serve. If you are seeking great sushi try Senro or UKai in San Ramon. Outstanding food good prices and outstanding service

Food is decent and fish tastes fresh, but the portions are laughably small for the prices they charge. I got chirashi with “sashimi” smaller than pieces on average nigiri on a big base of plain rice. Why order out if you’ll still be hungry after the meal? Worth going to Alameda or Oakland or San Ramon instead for sushi.

The outdoor seating is really nice and away from the traffic. Almost all the sushi rolls have avocado but not too much. The nigiri was a little on the small side but provided a good burst of flavor. No other sides, which might be nice to have with the sushi butt that’s ok. Would like to try the sashimi and see if it has crisp edges.

Former staff review. They only use cold water to wash there dishes. I’d get in trouble for using hot water everytime! They also take there old rice and mix it with the hot new rice. Anything to save a dollar!! Don’t believe me? I got 3 hour work days! From 12-3. One time I stopped working 2 minutes to 3 and was in trouble for that. Terrible owners. I’d never eat here seeing what I saw. Talk about bacteria spreading.
