Don’t simply eat; take your taste buds on a journey across the globe with Amara. Amara celebrates the beauty of both Indo Chinese and South Indian cuisines. For the uninitiated, Indo Chinese cuisine was invented when the Chinese migrated to colonial India 250 years ago, bringing with them their culinary treasures. Incorporating traditional Chinese cooking techniques with the spices of India to create something new yet familiar, Indo Chinese is now an integral part of Indian cuisine. Amara also brings to you South Indian cuisine which includes culinary delicacies from the Southern states of India. Amara is a 200-seat restaurant with its own bar and a stunning atmosphere.

Visited this place on a rant Friday. Have heard they have DJ on Fridays and it is pretty busy, so reserved in advance. Only two tables were busy when we reached and we were asked if we had reservation prior. We requested booth and plenty were available. The place has rustic vibes and cozy interiors we ordered gobhi 65 and eggplant kale pakoras for appetizers. For dinner entrees we ordered chicken fried rice, daal tadka, gongura chicken and paneer mussallam. The curries were not buttery or creamy and each had a different taste and preparation. Overall, we were satisfied with the quality and quantity of food. Only reason was three stars: they added 15% gratuity to the check. That sounds unreasonable as the customers should not be compelled for gratuity, specially when there were not more than 6 people in our party. One should provide generous tip to the servers as the best practice and we adhere to that. But adding 15% to the check felt like forced payment and on top of that the service provided didn’t justify that.

Incredible Indian food! We ordered the Chicken Kurma, Lamb Vindaloo, and the Chicken Tikka Masala. They were all really good! You definitely have to get Garlic Naan on the side it’s a must! For dessert order the Rabdi Falooda and the Traditional Gulab Jasmin. You will not be disappointed! If you like Lager beer order a Taj Mahal.

We really liked this place. The southern Indian dishes we tried were good (one of the best batches of Chicken 65 I’ve had), as were the northern Indian items (naan, etc.). It’s also the only place in Indy I know of with such an extensive selection of indo-chinese dishes (Hakka noodles etc.). Smokey dal makhni and the lamb ghee roast were probably our favorites, but there were also a lot of dishes we didn’t try (yet).

I cannot stress enough how much I love the food here. The menu is large with a wide array of dishes. Everything I have tried so far has been fantastic. The service is great – super friendly, willing to accommodate dietary needs, offers really helpful recommendations, etc. The first time I stopped by it was for a quick bite – the food was so good that I changed my plans specifically so I could take the leftovers home.

Their food is very tasty and their presentation is beautiful. We had the Amara Eggplant and Kale Chaat, Blackened Chicken Tandoori, Saag Burrata, and Goat Chettinad. I highly recommend all of the dishes. The Blackened Chicken Tandoori is really special like nothing I’ve tried. I also really enjoyed the twist on saag with the burrata cheese. It will be on the top of my list when going out for Indian food for dinner from now on!

I really enjoy various versions of Indian cuisine, but this menu features many dishes I had never heard of. My friend and I followed our waiter’s recommendations, and we loved our food. The star for me was the tamarind cauliflower. A taste explosion! We will be back.

Went tonight for the first time. Best Indian food I’ve had in Indy. Very flavorful. Service was excellent. I rarely write reviews, but I was impressed and want their restaurant to be successful.

The service was good. Every dish was super salty and not worth the money. The drinks were not great which would have been ok had the food been amazing. The food was subpar at best. Looking at the menu beforehand had great expectations. Disappointed to say the least.
