Great food and at a reasonable price!! Absolutely a “home cooked” feel to thelis place. Fried chicken really brought some comfort…all of side dishes stand on their own as well as make for a solid accompaniment for any of the stellar entrees. People behind the counter also make you feel welcome and really put the love in the food. Don’t skip the uptown tea and bean pies in the case. They really complete the overall experience. This place brought back memories of the home cooked meals of my youth.

Was visiting the area and found this spot! I was so excited, then I was let down. I had a honey glazed salmon platter with candied yams, Mac and potato salad. The salmon was nothing special at all. Just covered with sauce. The potato salad tasted like a Karen made it. The yams was good…not overly sweet. The Mac was actually good. Everything else wasn’t worth the money. Very disappointed. This definitely ain’t soul food.

Food is excellent and you get your money’s worth. The staff can be a little more friendly and welcoming. Everyone seemed stressed or angry but it doesn’t take away from the food. Banana Pudding is the best in NJ period

Can’t believe I didn’t try this place sooner. Some of the most delicious soul food I’ve had. The Turkey meatloaf and fried catfish were to die for, the Mac and cheese, jerk fries, candied yams and Oxtail empanada were all delicious and the banana pudding was a delectable ending to the meal. Can’t wait to come back and try some other plates. Friendly service and very hearty portions, cannot recommend enough!
