First and foremost the staff is great. I got the brisket, pulled pork, baked beans, mac and cheese, and a sausage link. Yes, I am a large man. The brisket was so tender as was the pulled pork. For both I’d recommend the Jersey devil sauce. Sweet and spicy sauce but not hot per se, just an excellent flavor. Baked beans were awesome. Mac and cheese was not exquisite, but let’s be honest the meat is supposed to be the star of the show. Sausage link had a very nice bite to it, texturally, and was very flavorful. 10/10 would recommend.

What a pleasant surprise! Stopped while traveling en route to a meeting for a quick lunch. Had the brisket, pulled pork, and crackling pork rinds. Everything was excellent. The BBQ sauce selection was amazing too, with some very uncommon options. Highly recommend.

Went here today to sample the food for an upcoming event I need catering for. This place is the real deal. You walk in, and are hit with a wall of hickory. I ordered the pulled chicken & ribs. OMG. Chicken was incredible. Ribs likewise were likewise very good. Maybe could have been a bit more juicy, but they are slow smoked, and had an amazing flavor & did come off the bone clean. Baked beans are incredible. Not soft & mushy – still have some firmness & texture to them. Slaw (I tried both) were good – personally I think they should combine their vinegar slaw & classic slaw to create the perfect blend (but of course you can do that yourself). The sauces are ridiculously good. And the peeps that work there are truly nice & friendly. I just placed a $400 catering order for this weekend. Will be a regular customer, for sure! And, they support the troops – Veteran owned, discounts for service members & first responders, free food for gold star families, etc. You have to support a place like this!

This place never fails to make me very happy. We bought a few pounds of the smoked turkey for our Thanksgiving dinner. Best turkey ever. Their brisket is perfection and their array of sauces are very flavorful. Great addition to the Scotch Plains area.

Very good BBQ joint. All the meats are smoked in-house. The brisket has a fantastic black peppercorn rub that bursts with flavor, and the homemade sausage links are fantastic as well. They demonstrate a strong commitment to members and veterans of the American armed forces so I’m always glad to spend my money here. The only minor negative is some inconsistencies in the food quality, but it’s hard to be perfectly consistent when you’re slow cooking very large pieces of meat. Also it’s a little expensive for what you get, especially the St. Louis style ribs, due to the bone weight.

What a wonderful find. Delicious Brisket, cole slaw and Jersey fries. The 2 young men behind the counter were kind and courteous. The fact that this establishment supports our Military is an added bonus. Do visit, you’ll be glad you did.

The brisket was good, but the food was lukewarm at best. My son and I both ordered 2 protein special and the pulled pork was dry and flavorless. The variety of sauces is flavorful and seem to appease every plalate tangy, sweet and spicy.

American Heroes is a small place with some authentic BBQ. There is limited seating and the staff is friendly. Today I ordered the brisket sandwich. The brisket is solid. Good smoke and good rub. I thought it was a little fatty but that is a personal preference. The portion on the sandwich was small. For an expensive sandwich I felt a little cheated. I wasn’t a fan of the roll either. It didn’t hold up to the brisket. The side of fries was very good. They were aggressively tossed in a legit BBQ rub. As a side the portion size was huge. It could easily have been half the amount. I will come back and try some other choices. Overall, it was good but not great.

I use to drive pass this place and use to wonder why it was so packed. Now I know why.. their food is absolutely amazing. My husband and I ordered a little bit of everything being as though this was our 1st time here. We ordered fries, brisket, bbq pulled pork, bbq pulled chicken, and chicken wings. My favorite was the chicken wings and the fries. Didn’t have a chance to take any pictures because everything was so amazing.
