After a day of exploring NYC (from Illinois) we found Amy Ruth’s after a quick google search of the best soul food near us. The description held incredibly true. The cornbread was warm and moist, the kind that melts in your mouth. We tried the fried chicken (thigh and leg) and my brother said it was the best fried chicken he has had in his life. The greens and Mac and cheese would be hard to rival, they were both packed full of flavor and perfectly cooked. I was highly impressed with each of our tables meal. We also had help from 2 incredible staff members with a totally unrelated situation, the only way I can describe them is angels! Thank you for your hospitality.

Jumbo fried shrimp with macaroni and cheese and yams. You’ll love it, take my word. The peach mimosa was to die for as per my partner in crime, I had the sweet tea, can’t go wrong. Tasha was our server and she was awesome. Cornbread came out first, but we asked to have the salmon croquettes brought out with the meal. Cornbread did not survive that long, use the butter!! Yummy!! Thanks again. I’ll be back. It was my first time and my school is only 4 blocks away, so I feel cheated. But you won’t, believe me. I took home some fried wings and waffles. Delicious.

I ordered the fried chicken and ribs w/mac&cheese and string beans. I was not impressed, the string beans were salty and the ribs had more fat than meat. They did allow me to switch veggies for candied yams which tasted like it was from a can. Again not impressed. If there’s a next time I’ll just keep it simple and get the chicken and waffle.

Amazing! My first time going I order the chicken wings and waffle with a side of strawberries. The wings were bomb! I couldn’t get enough. The waffle batter taste great as well. The fruit were fresh and ripe. Let’s not forget the drinks. The cranberry juice was light and tasteful but I do recommend the peach juice. Will definitely return. Use this review as a green sign to go!

Delicious. Thanks to Tasha for being so welcoming. Couldn’t come to NY without having a proper breakfast in this legendary place. Don’t know what was the cake served to wait but OMG so good

First time visiting, was not impressed. The waitress was very nice. The service was relatively quick. The food was not the greatest. Amongst the table, we ordered: Chicken and Ribs plate, Jerk Shrimp, Turkey Wings, Vegan Burger and the Smothered Pork Chops. Sides: Salad, Mac and Cheese, Greens, Rice and Gravy, French Fries, Yams and Cheesy Grits.

Classic southern soul food. Chicken plates and filling sides. Atmosphere is genuine Harlem. Love the place. It looked a long waiting line when we arrived, but the man in the front arranged tables for everybody quickly.

I heard so many good things about this restaurant. I was looking forward to trying the food. I was very disappointed. We ordered five plates to go and it totaled approximately $120. This picture is an example of the quality of food. Not only was it plated sloppily but it was tasteless. These were supposed to be smothered pork chops. The pork chops and gravy had no flavor. The pork chops were rubbery and inedible. I also had the potato salad. It tasted like mashed potatoes with mayonnaise in it. The yams were ok. Giving them the benefit of the doubt, maybe they just had an off day.

I made a special trip from North Jersey to Amy Ruth’s to pickup a catering order of ribs and bring them to a party in Connecticut.
