Stopped in this evening to try this new spot out. We really enjoyed everything. Our appetizers came out quickly and were both fantastic. The volcano roll was definitely a shining star as well as the fresh sashimi! I would definitely recommend checking this place out.

This place does not belong in Oklahoma, but I’m very thankful to have found it. I’ve eaten Japanese food in Seattle and straight from Tsukiji fish market in Tokyo. Awaji almost matches the tastes I remember from those places. Get the seasonal sashimi and let Chef take care of you. The drinks are also amazing. We’ll be back!

I grew up around this area, having graduated from PCN in 2015. After a reunion with a friend, he suggested this place when I noticed Nhinja moved locations.

I had the most delightful experience at Awaji Izakaya in OKC. From the moment I walked in, I was enveloped in a wonderful atmosphere that transported me straight to Japan. I’m incredibly grateful that such a restaurant exists here in Oklahoma City.

Listen… I lived in Japan for several years and became a sushi elitist in that time. I’ve tried every sushi place in the OKC metro area, often multiple times. Awaji Izakaya has the best sushi in Oklahoma, hands down.

Incredibly fresh fish, with black cod flown in from Japan! Chef Richard has done something special here and has such an eye for detail, you’ll notice it and then appreciate it. David, who runs the bar, is great to have a conversation with and knows so much about sake, he recommended a wonderful sake, Kawatsuru “Olive” Junmai Ginjo, to pair with dinner. Rob was our waiter and he was very friendly and professional. So glad to have an Izakaya back in OKC, this can be a date night spot or a true Izakaya (Stay Drink Place) for Fridays after work. I’ll travel to Japan shortly, but am glad to have this here and will visit again when I return!

Awaji Izakaya is a very unique Japanese gastro-pub. Featuring sushi and yakitori along with some entrees and small plates. The chef has created a wonderful menu with some things you won’t find anywhere else.
