Backdraft Cafe and BBQ is a small town diner in the middle of Berthold, ND. We strive to bring you high quality food and atmosphere. It is the home of the one and only Backdraft Brisket Burger, a cheese burger with a slice of some of the best smoked brisket you may ever taste. The diner was established November 2018, under the management of Kalvin Myers, and his daughter Christa Lowery. These two take great pride in what they dish up!

Place was quiet for lunch on a Wednesday which was nice for my dad and I to go there for lunch. Have never eaten here, but was truly impressed! Burgers and fries were delicious, cooked thoroughly and the service was awesome! Will definitely be stopping by again in the near future.

I have to admit I was a little disappointed with this place. A local recommended it. It was good, but not great. It was over priced and the serving sizes are small. I ordered a piece of carrot cake for desert. It was a mini Bundt cake and I think it was a spice cake you warm up in the microwave. It wasn’t very good and it was $8.00. Like I said, food is good, not great, serving sizes are small, and the food is overpriced for what you get. I was a little disappointed.

My hubby works pipeline construction and is in ND a lot over the years. This place was a repeat destination for his crew for take out lunch. So, last week, my kids and him went there for supper. Lots of food choices on their menu. We had the Firehouse meal which allows you to sample some BBQ meats, smoked Mac-n-cheese, beans and coleslaw. I was not disappointed!! Just plan ahead, wait times can be a little long.

Real live BBQ and smoked dishes along with a full menu of selections. A small town atmosphere and quality food choices. It can be busy at times, so don’t expect to rush in and out. But, you won’t want to, and after your visit you will return soon… guaranteed.

Meat on sandwich was good but having to pay extra for a little container of Bbq sauce and ranch was extra that could have been included in price. Got bread pudding but it was 1 1/2″ by 1 1/2″ and was heated in microwave to such a high temp it burned my tongue and lips on the first bite. The food truck was amazing, but for the price at the cafe, it was not worth the $42 we paid without tip.

I would recommend this restaurant for ribs, brisket sandwiches, prime rib, fried pickle Spears. Our motorcycle group are there last night since it was prime rib night. The portion was very generous and tasty and tender. The ribs were soft and had a pleasant smoke flavor with lots of meat and a generous portion as well. The brisket was melt in your mouth tender and the seasoning was good as well. We are planning to go there again in another ride. The only draw back was there ceiling was occasionally dripping out of the vent into the table. Otherwise I would have given them a five star rating.
