We’re locals and although we have numerous dining options within 20 mins from our house, we choose Backwaters more than the others. The food offerings are unique enough to entice you to try something different yet all the northwoods staples are offered too. We’ve always felt very welcome by the owners and staff and the outdoor bar/patio/dining area overlooking the river is fantastic!

We have been here for an hour and 30 minutes and still have not received our food. Guess we’ll pay for our drinks and call it good . It was not busy about 3 tables inside and 3 tables outside???? What is the issue. We have never left without getting our food, and I am 67. 30 minutes ago they told us we were next!

We were told when we arrived that their special (chicken) was unavailable due to equipment failure but were assured they did have other selections. We had a party of 6 adults and 3 children. After waiting over an hour, during which our waitress came back once to ask if we needed more soda, I inquired as to how much longer it would be. I was told they also had outside customers. We had only ordered sandwiches, burgers, etc. No big dinners. But no communication regarding status! No apology for the long wait. One of the kids had fallen asleep during the wait. Not sure we will go back, which is too bad because it is convenient for us! No one was happy! Over $140 spent.

2nd time eating here. We didn’t review the first time because we wanted to give it another try. Food is good, cook and waitress missed a few things when prepping the food (pesto Mayo). Waitress didn’t come back to ask “how things are tasing” which is pretty standard. We know it’s difficult getting good workers as we’re small business owners.

Perch tasted like whitefish. Bland. Triangular shaped, appeared to be frozen filets. Husbands walleye was better. Disappointing for the reviews we got on this place.

This was our 2nd visit to give it a second chance from last year. Unfortunately it was even worse. 1230 pm with 3 tables in front of us ordering. 2 outside and 1 inside. We sat inside also. After an hour we were told 10 more minutes. After 20 mins we started asking about our food. Another 10 mins and we actually had to leave so we started packing up and preparing to pay for the drinks. That’s when the food came out. The table inside before us still didn’t get their food. Rubens were small and more lunch meat tasting. The 8 piece $3 onion rings were cold. Crispy chicken wrap was all lettuce with a couple bites of chicken. No sauce. The burgers were just mediocre. They had no spotted cow or blue moon beer. No Mac and cheese of any kind for any dish.

Order Jameson on the rocks, they charged $7.28 for the shot and another $7.28 for the rocks (the receipt specifically says ROCKS not a double shot which it wasn’t anyway). Questioned the waitress and she shrugged her shoulders and said that is correct. $14.56 for any drink is ridiculous. Then we got our 8oz grilled chicken dinners, the chicken breast was less than 1/4″ thick and no way more than 4 oz (it wouldn’t have filled a cheap hamburger bun!) $4 to substitute a salad for the french fries and the icing on the cake was calling as we were driving away and asking to talk to the owner; was told they were far too busy, there was one table and two people at the bar when we left. (this was an actual person NOT a recording!) The new ownership is not going to last long if they continue ripping people off and hiding from confrontation. $95 (3 people) for the worst meal I have ever had, definitely won’t be back (The last thing I want is a gift card to come back here; I’ll take the loss and head to H2H!)

First visit and we’ll be back – excellent and attentive service, I had the BLT Wrap and potato salad – delicious, she had the Backwaters cheese sandwich and fries – also delicious. We enjoyed the beautiful view of the Wisconsin River while dining. Oh, try the “house made” chips, they are to die for. Enjoy your visit, we sure did.

Fantastic fish fry! Breading was well seasoned,light, and crunchy. Delicious coleslaw, tartar sauce, and Ole fashioned. Relaxed atmosphere with tvs for sports and wonderful view of the wi river.

Nice clean fun atmosphere that sells good burgers. Also right on the river so have some nice scenery. Staff was nice and friendly and fast would recommend and we’ll be back thank you.
