My husband really enjoys authentic BBQ and Bakers certainly is a refreshing change from some standard restaurants. The atmosphere is comfortable, casual and there seemed to be many locals enjoying their meals. The service is great, attentive, pleasant and the waitress gave my husband a soda refill without him asking. For our meals the pulled pork sandwich was juicy and abundant but seemed under seasoned and lacking a great Smokey flavor, the table side BBQ sauce add helped . For some reason the bottom of the bun was soggy which made it a challenge to hold together. The burnt ends sandwich was flavorful but was in parts very fatty. My husband is okay with that but he says it is usually served less fatty. We enjoyed our lunch and plan to go back.

Got burnt ends and brisket while my friend got the ribs. Burnt ends we’re just super hard and the ribs didn’t impressed me either. However I did give 2 stars for the brisket which was pretty good and the sides we’re also good. Overall experience was a bit disappointed.

Very nice hometown restaurant. Food was delicious and reasonably priced. Very clean and really nice people. Good sized portions. I got the pulled pork without a bun and couldn’t eat it all! Worth the stop.

Best BBQ. Love it all, great sides. Pricier for a reason but one of the fastest lunches too. I do wish for a bit more sauces sometimes (maybe a horseradish or an actual hot hot sauce) but what they have is lovely!

Pulled pork was average. Really weak flavor and it was watery. Cole slaw wasnt bad but it was odd tasting…be forwarned that it has onions in it which is strange. For a bbq place, it barely smells like bbq when you walk in. The atmosphere is lacking…seemed clean enough but it’s really bright and plain inside. We’ll stick to our favorite bbq place in the mall in Ottumwa.

Had the brisket sandwich was delicious. Husband had the turkey and burnt ends. Turkey was really good but the burnt ends were nothing but Fat no meat to them.

Stopped by on a Friday for some BBQ chicken. The owner and his son were the only ones there. They were nice and made us feel welcome. This wasn’t the kind of place you get to sit down and talk over a menu. They need a waitress. You also have to pay upfront before you get your food. Kinda like a school cafeteria. They want you to leave promptly after eating. Don’t expect to get refills on your drink unless you ask. The food is in little half cup bowels except for the meat. Really like their coleslaw but it’s sky high. Same with potato salad. Again felt like high priced cafeteria.
