Tried Balkan for the first time on my visit to St. Louis. All I can say is WOW!! Food was 10/10, service absolutely wonderful and the overall atmosphere was just great. Had the beef Pide and the beef Lahmacun, would highly HIGHLY recommend. Their hummus and bread is also so good!! Will definitely visit again next time!

Very busy inside but it did not hamper the service one bit. Delicious Balkan/Turkish fare and they even have their own lager on tap thanks to Urban Chestnut Brewery. The food is excellent and very close/the same to what we’ve had in Europe and the Balkan peninsula.

Beware of Darkness
I had never tried Bulgarian food before, and this restaurant is right in our neighborhood, so we gave it a go. I’m so glad we did! I ordered the lahmacun with spicy beef, it was fantastic! My only complaint is that the portion was slightly on the small side, so I was still a little hungry afterward. No biggie, I just know I need to add a side or two next visit. And there will be a next visit, it’s so good!

What a treat! Expect a big line anytime you go but service is so good and quick. Cooks and people serving are so attentive and nice. Love all the dishes. Best bread it is. Fresh flavorful ingredients. Red pepper dip is phenomenal. Buttermilk is delicious. Grilled fish is amazing.

The line to order was to the back exit when we came today for lunch. I ordered #2, Pide with chicken and my daughter ordered #3, Doner, with chicken. When we were ordering he asked if we were dining in or carrying out. The restaurant was packed so he asked if we minded sitting at the long community table and we said no problem. We sat down and they brought our order to us. My Pide tasted better than I expected. The combination of the ingredients tasted incredible. I tried some of my daughters Doner and it was equally delicious. The side of chips with the Doner is as odd. I think a better side is a small cucumber and tomato salad. The staff were all very friendly. A staff person came by and refilled my daughter’s cup of water and they cleared our spot. There is a large public parking lot behind the building. I encourage everyone to experience this treat box.

At the suggestion of a friend we decided to step out of our normal routine for food. This place is amazing. Food was fantastic and the atmosphere, though loud, was quite fun and lively. Definitely worth the trip.

A bit noisy inside but what else would one expect at lunchtime? We ate outside on the back porch and except for street noises, it was much quieter. The crew of folks working all seemed happy. They were friendly, courteous and helpful. It looked like a nice bunch of people to work with. The food was outstanding. I had a spicy chicken doner—this was a sandwich with flavor out of this world. The bread was so wonderful and it was filled with chicken which was not too spicy at all and vegetables. It came with some tasty potato chips. I left fully satisfied and I’m looking forward to another visit there soon.

The husband and I stopped by for lunch on a Thursday around 11:30. We just beat the rush of people, as this place draws a crowd – for good reason! Starting with the service – counter style ordering with folks on the floor directing traffic – everyone was kind and helpful. The atmosphere was fun and inviting, with a buzz from the open kitchen and community seating table option. Now for the best part, the food. Everything was so fresh and well flavored. We devoured the pide and Balkan burger. The iced tea was also absolutely delicious. We look forward to coming back to try more of the menu. Everything coming out of the kitchen looked amazing.

Highly recommend. This sought after lunch spot has a very efficient process with a hostess that greets you with a menu and the specials of the day. She gives you a number for a table and lets you know to ask any questions needed. You get in line, place your order and sit at your assigned table. A server brings the food to the table and picks up the dishes when finished. The interior is clean and comfortable. I had the grilled fish which was red snapper and it was perfect on their homemade pita bread wrap. The rice pudding was also a nice ending treat. The seasoned black tea was just right and complimentary refills. The portions are not too large and not too small. I recommend getting their closer to 11-11:30am as a line starts forming. You won’t be disappointed.
