My husband loved the menu selection. Enjoyed the combination of flavors and spices. Was like nothing I have ever had before. Also, the food presentation was beautiful. Feel fortunate to have found this place during a weekend trip to South Bend.

If you haven’t treated yourself to Bantam, don’t miss the chance to go–the chef is a true culinary artist! In both taste and appearance of each dish, there is so much attention to detail. We went 8/6/22 and Robert (? name) was an excellent server who made the experience even better. Our cocktails were delicious! We have tried many dishes at Bantam, and have never been disappointed. Last night I had the Barramundi, which is a fish I had never tried before. The fish was cooked perfectly and the glaze, rice, and vegetables blended beautifully with it. My husband and daughter loved their Fried Chicken Dinner (big portions, he even took a leg home!) and Rieff sandwich. We also tried the Sticky Califlower and potato empanadas, which were great. And then there was the dessert–you have to try whatever they are offering because, again, the details…an absolute treat!

Bantam Chicken and Seafood has a small but thoughtful menu of chicken & seafood items. The dishes take inspiration from American Southern cuisine – you’ll find buttermilk fried chicken, biscuits, hush puppies and stewed greens among their offerings. There were a small number of vegetarian small plates and a cauliflower sandwich offering but no vegetarian entrées, so this may not work for people looking for a vegetarian dinner option.

Donte (cook/owner) is a FOOD GENIUS. I have never been disappointed and everything I have ever ordered is well worth the value and is a healthy portion. The food is absolutely incredible. The entrees are unique and change frequently. The cocktails are fantastic and are high quality. The mixology is very impressive and the liquors are good quality.

My wife and I decided to try this charming restaurant out on a date night and were pleasantly surprised. The venue was neat and casual with a modern industrial charm. We were both impressed with the place settings and dinner wear and we loved the vessel her cocktail was served in as well as the plating. Our waitress was Seminar and she was friendly, helpful and kind making our experience even more memorable. We decided on the Crab Hushpuppies for our appetizer and the were very good and the remoulade used to dip them in was exceptional with the right amount of spice – we loved them. My wife reported that her cocktail was also good – choosing the Tropical Chiller – two types of rum and pineapple three ways. We both enjoyed just looking at the cup and how it was served. My wife decided on the fried chicken and Brussels Sprouts coleslaw. The plating was rustic and charming and the chicken was well cooked and succulent. I ordered the Hot Chicken Sandwich (XXX) with a side of Grits and Gravy. The sandwich lived up to its name and was exceptionally spicy but GREAT! Defiantly something spicy food lovers should try at least once. I enjoyed it as well as the few extra napkins needed to wipe my brow. The grits were exceptional and the gravy was excellent – a perfect pairing in between bits of the sandwich to quell the spice – perfect comfort food.

Sure the chicken is good but the service was unbelievably bad. After 30 mins of waiting to order, I’m told they are out of empanadas. I place another order. “We’re out of that.” I find a beer I want. “We don’t have that anymore.” I select a new beer. “That tap just ran out.” My third choice came back to me like this:

I would not be surprised that if by the next time I visit this place will be hard to find a reservation for. The food here is by far uniquely sophisticated and familiar. I was planning on going to Popeyes with my friend’s family for dinner after a tennis tournament but then it was just too long of a line. Someone did suggest Bantam and I was expecting a little nice average family diner and by god I am glad that someone suggested this place and that I was wrong. The chicken sandwiches here are really amazing like its an understatement to say that they are better than Popeyes. The macaroni and cheese is perfect. The staff is super nice. Overall I recommend this place for anyone looking for a chicken sandwich fix and just for a meal. 10/10 really amazing.
