Went to Baxter’s on a Saturday and it was very busy but got a table pretty quick. The live music is awesome and atmosphere was nice as well. Food wasn’t bad but nothing spectacular for the prices. Drinks were good but took way to long to come out up stairs even with a bar less then 10 feet away. I would recommend for drinks at the lower bar level but not to have dinner at.

I have traveled all over the world and very extensively in the United States, and Baxter’s easily makes it into the top 5 bars I’ve ever visited! The attention to detail is outstanding and has the vibe of a prohibition speakeasy, appearing like a fancy clock shop from the street. They even have a hidden room through a bookcase on the second floor. There are so many cool spaces to explore; it will take many trips to appreciate them all! The bartenders are excellent and very knowledgeable in their craft. Great selection of bourbon to select from as well. The live music above the door was a treat, too! We can’t wait for our next visit to New Bern so we can stop in here for a couple of cocktails and the ambiance!

I wish I could give more than 5 stars, because Baxter’s would get it! We were visiting the area and found it the first night. We loved it so much, we returned the next night! The speakeasy atmosphere was extraordinary and attention was put into every detail. Ask about the hidden room! Service was spot on, they even accommodated a special request. The specialty cocktails were superb and perfectly complimented the soft music being played unobtrusively on a stage perched above the entrance. We stayed until closing the first night and were rewarded with an excellent piano concert from the owner. We are already planning another trip so we can return.

You won’t find a more unique, beautiful, or entertaining bar in New Bern! John Van Dyke was playing, the music sounds so good in that space! The food by Chef Chris is well crafted and local ingredients to make you salivate. Fantastic cocktails and excellent service, professional and warm staff members. Go check out Baxter’s, you won’t regret it!

After making a reservation for a night with musical entertainment 4 days in advance, with confirmation via text, we arrived early for the reservation and found out that the table was given away to the sponsor for the entertainment. Additionally, no other tables were available. The management may want to reconsider customer service.

Exactly what New Bern needed! Very classy place. Great atmosphere. We had the pleasure of attending the public opening. The owners were engaging and welcoming. The service, food and drinks were all spot on. Highly recommend the espresso martini! Can’t wait to go back.

We were underdressed and coming from a friends cookout, but the welcome was warm. We came just in time to see the last set and grab a drink and a snack with the only two seats at the bar. The jazz was on another level (literally) and his voice was like butter. The drinks were smart, and well crafted, loved the Bircher old fashioned (was perfectly balanced) and I had the Baxter 75, which was light and tart. We decided to split the short rib tacos which were so good I could have eaten another helping (but the portion was right). The atmosphere was divine, old school high class jazz, highly recommend and we will come back when we are back in town!

This place is great if you like a relaxed jazz club atmosphere. The food was a little pricey but it was delicious. Top notch live jazz. Lighting was perfect. People were very nice. Jazz musicians mingle with the crowd after each set. I loved it. I’ll be going back a lot.

From the atmosphere to the staff everything is awesome. Tastefully decorated and has separate little rooms for gathering or reserving. Even the background music is nice. A live jazz band plays at 7:00. I’ve heard it’s great but we didn’t stay for that.

I used to live in New Bern, and over the long weekend my girlfriend and I came in to experience the place I love. Baxter’s was recommended to us by the owner of the bed and breakfast we were staying at, so we headed there our first night after dinner elsewhere. The manager and waiter were incredibly nice and knowledgeable and made us feel right at home. The live music from above the door was intoxicating in its own right, but the atmosphere as a whole was mesmerizing. The drinks we ordered were out of this world. My girlfriend and I made it back in our second night, this time sitting at the bar. The bartenders, Jessica and Christian were so nice and welcoming! They are also wonders at their craft, as I’ve never had drinks so creative and delicious anywhere before! They explained their drinks and ingredients to us, and the conversation was effortlessly engaging! We made our way back in our third and final night in town and were greeted again by Jessica and Christian. We had dinner this night too, and that completed this experience. Some of the absolute best food, hands down the best drinks and service, and most unique and inviting atmosphere in New Bern. 10 out of 10, highly recommended.
