We just ate at Ben Gui, their ice machine was broken and we ordered water, they charged us $1.50 per water (from Sam’s) they never offered water without ice for free. We asked for squid (inka) salad he said he can’t make that tonight. We ordered the Sashimi Deluxe $23.50 the menu said it comes with soup or salad, our server said not anymore. I ordered Bento Box C on the menu it said $19.50 includes soup or salad once again the server said it’s no longer included. I paid an extra $2.50 for the salad. We got the bill and the Sashimi Deluxe was $25.00 ($1.50 increase) and my $19.50 dinner was now $24.50 plus the $2.50 for the salad, that’s a $6.50 increase from what your menu says. If you need to change your menu and pricing is fine, but update the menu and don’t charge for the water if your ice machine is broken. The dinner was ok we prefer Wasabi’s downtown, much better than our experience tonight! Oh look back at the reviews, 7 months ago they were charging for water and their menu prices didn’t match! Update your menu and pricing! Deceiving!

Sushi was solid but the bait and switch wasn’t cool. I’ve never ordered water at a sit down restaurant and been charged $1.50 for it. We got the receipt at the end and everything was several dollars more than what the menu said. When I asked, they told me the menu was 10 years old and the new ones haven’t came in yet. I understand that prices have increased and have no problem with that, but tell me that when you give me the menu.

Probably best sushi in the Roanoke area. The house soup was delicious and very filling, however wouldn’t recommend the dumplings somewhat disappointed with them. The sushi was excellent and especially the iCrunchy roll was amazing.

What a wonderful place; we had some take out and enjoyed sashimi deluxe and sushi deluxe combinations. The fish quality was remarkable; portions were large; I really liked the temperature of the fish; it was fresh but not cold or barely unfrozen. Even the rice was fluffy and light.

Disappointed, it was a friday night around 6:00pm. the start of fathers day weekend and I ordered beef fried rice, they were out. The sushi was just ok. The sticky rice was not sticky. How is a restaurant out of something on a busy weekend, I feel like they didn’t want to make it. So I ordered chicken fried rice it was not very good. I have had better sushi so many other places, I’m sorry but for the prices you charge and nothing was any not good at all. It will be a long time before I return.

I am visiting the area and have eaten Sushi all over the US. The waitress was curt with me whrn I asked for ice water with lemon. They “do not have ice” here. People drink out of soda cans. Not even glass. I ordered Miso soup at it took forever and arrived cold. Then I ordered unagi roll and sashimi to start and the rude waitress said “We are busy. So if you want more you will have to wait.” Unagi roll was perhaps the most poorly executed roll I have EVER received. Anywhere. Falling apart. Not properly pressed. No sesame. Minute in size as well. The Hamachi was dark in color and not Premium cut and not very cold. The ginger slices 3 in total were orange in color not fresh. And the Wasabi was inconsistent in heat..so it was old or badly pressed. The waitress bumped up the price everything on my check by 50 cents and thought I would not notice. I considered it her tip. I have no idea where these other reviews come from but poor execution, quality, kindness and service is reason for this review.

We actually enjoyed our food, but when she brought the bill they had upcharged on every single item and they charged us more than 10% tax. $7.55 on a $66 dollar meal. Dishonesty just lost them a customer, and we would have gone back otherwise.

Best sushi I’ve ever had, hands down. The owner Ben was the sushi chef. He is friendly and very, very good at combining flavors. He made three wonderful, fantastic, flavor-popping dishes – see my pics. I’ll be back, thank you Ben!!

Overall a fantastic experience. Ben Gui has the widest range of menu options for sushi in the area. I ordered two of the “Trust Me” roll options (can’t remember the names, sorry!) and they didn’t disappoint! My wife asked Ben to design a dish based on an experience she had at a Japanese restaurant (in another state) and she was very happy with the result as well. If you’re into sake (the beverage, not the fish), they also have the best selection I’ve found in the area.
