You have GOT to check out Big Al’s BBQ. North Carolina style BBQ because the owner was raised there and he brought their style to Oneonta, NY.

This was hands down our BEST meal in Cooperstown/Oneonta all week!!! Really delicious BBQ rivaling any I have had in Memphis, Kansas City or Texas. The BBQ chicken and pork ribs were both delicious…..i’m coming back again to try the famous brisket . All the sides we had were yummy too: Dirty rice, baked beans, Yams and Collard greens. Topped it off with delicious peach cobbler and banana cream pie. The owner was very friendly and accommodating to top off this amazing dining experience!!!!

Easily one of the best BBQ places I’ve ever been to. Everything here was great. My family and I got brisket, beef ribs, catfish, and pork BBQ, along with sides of collard greens, Cajun fries, baked beans, and coleslaw. For dessert we got banana pudding and peach cobbler, which were the perfect finish to our lunch. I wish we could have tried the rest of the menu items as there were just so many tasty options. We did have to wait a while for the food, but it was more than worth it. Definitely a must-try if you’re in the area. Hope to come back soon.

We have heard about this place a few times but never had the opportunity to stop. Well we decided to today and let me tell you, I wish we had made the time sooner! We absolutely loved it! Al is awesome and his food is awesome! We will definitely not hesitate to return as we love southern BBQ and living in NY it’s hard to find. I thought it was a bit pricey, but then we got our meals and there is enough there for at minimum two meals!! So the prices are great! I had 1/2 chicken and brisket dinner with Mac and cheese and Cajun Fries as my sides.. delicious!!! My husband had the chicken and brisket also but got fries and greens. Which he said were amazing. (I’m still hearing about them 3 hours later LOL) Also the peach cobbler was amazing.

We had them cater our wedding this passed weekend with brisket, ribs, and chicken thighs, and some sides and everyone loved the food! We had a few more people than expected show up and we ran out of meat (on our part) we called them up during dinner to see if we could get more meat last minute and they were more than accommodating! They delivered what we needed and some! And the food was completely gone by the end of the night! We were so grateful to deal with such amazing people here! Thank you so much!

We met Big Al himself, what a guy. Food was incredible as well as their incredible staff, definitely will come back here again. The meat was some of the moistest meat I’ve ever tried.

Read rave reviews about Big Al’s, so figured we better try it. We went on a Tuesday night about 7pm. Ordered four meals to go because it was cool and windy. The food took over 30-45 minutes to get from the time we ordered. Sides were cold and we were missing 2. Smack and cheese was terrible, no flavor–almost like someone forgot to add seasonings to the recipe. The corn bread muffins were the best park of the meal. However, they were stuck to the muffin papers and crumbled when you tried to take them out. Potatoe salad was nothing great. Beff ribs we’re extremely difficult to eat— hard and chewy. For the price food is over rated.

Hoping we just caught it on a bad night based on the good reviews. Only us and one other table of three but the food took forever to come out. Came out one at a time but then some of it was cold. Last plate of our family of four came out about fifteen minutes after the first plate for our family. One of the orders of fries was cold and hard but the other order was better. Sadly won’t be trying it again.

We ordered online to pick up and it was raining terribly so no eating outside but we all learned how to eat in our cars over the past few years anyway.
