Tucked away on the second floor of what my kids describe as an “old house,” the space opens up to a modern feeling cafe/diner where you order at the front counter and they call out your name when your food is ready. We didn’t get too adventurous our first time here and just tried the Kalua Pork Sandwich (topped with slaw and Hawaiian BBQ sauce, served with macaroni salad) and Teriyaki Chicken Platter (with macaroni salad and sticky rice). These dishes had a familiar feel with a touch of something new from the Hawaiian flavors. The teriyaki sauce wasn’t overly sweet and had more of a tangy soy sauce flavor than I prefer when tasting the sauce itself, but it worked well with the chicken. The serving size of the pork sandwich was perfect, though the bbq sauce was slightly muted by the amount of slaw. The macaroni salad was very creamy with no frills. I love the variety of canned Hawaiian juice drinks offered. Perhaps the most pleasant surprise of Big Kahuna is the high quality to price ratio. Most meals on the menu were under $15 and an affordable kids menu is offered as well. Staff was friendly and helpful, and service was quick despite the place being fairly busy. We arrived at 5pm on a Saturday and it definitely got busier before we left. Signs outside point to a off-street gravel parking lot a couple driveways over. We look forward to going back again!

The food was good, I got a Moko Loco and the meat and eggs were cooked well, I wish there was more brown gravy for the amount of rice that was there, but that is mostly personal preference. I actually enjoyed the macaroni salad better than what I had on my trip to Hawaii!

We stopped in for lunch and got the tofu plate, with sticky rice and swapped out the macaroni salad for the Hawaiian style fries, and my boyfriend got the Mahi Mahi sandwich with the macaroni salad. Everything we had was delicious! The blackened mahi was seasoned perfectly. The tofu was probably the best tofu I’ve ever had. The pineapple and the marinade were so full of flavor! The sweet bbq sauce on the fries and rice was unlike anything I have ever had. The portion size was a great value for the price. The plate alone could have fed 2 people. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a quick tasty lunch!

I’ve been looking for high quality restaurants in Lexington and found one to keep on my list. Big Kahuna is fairly authentic and very delicious. I got the Kalua pork plate with macaroni salad, a spam musubi, and a Hawaiian Sun. All was excellent. While is not cheap, it portions are very gracious and frankly it is a great value.

I have heard so many good things about this place and so many recommendations from other people to go here, finally went and was not disappointed! I cannot believe I did not know about this place and the amazing food they served! The portions are massive and the food is just too too good! Cannot wait to go back!

OMG, the Burger of Da Week was delicious! The Waagu beef was juicy, the fried pineapple amazing, slice of ham a great touch (my bf gave me his for a second slice). I also got an order of the Hawaiin fries, always good.

Great place to grab dinner. The Mahi Mahi plate is amazing, I’ve had it both times I’ve been here. Pork Katsu plate is also very good. Very friendly staff, minimal atmosphere but you come here for the food. We drive through Lexington regularly, this is now one of our favorite places to grab dinner and we will be back.
