First time here and we loved it! Plenty of options for the pickiest or even most adventurous eaters. I stuck with a classic spicy chicken sandwich, and was pleasantly surprised by the po’ boy style bread that was top notch! With an amazing side of potato salad I couldn’t have asked for more. Great outdoor seating, plenty of indoor seating and a bar. Really nice place with some cool and fun history behind it; Definitely worth a visit!

Can’t find Big Mama’s Kitchen? It’s inside the building with Hardy Coffee on the first floor. Park in the lot to the north, go up the stairs, enter the doors on the left, and you’ll see it on the right!

We came in at 6:30, and we were aware that the menu drastically changes after 7:00 pm. As it was late, we knew we were coming later in the day and would have been understanding if some items were not available anymore. We wanted to try some of the sides (mac and cheese, cornbread, and fried green tomatoes.) We went to the pick up window, but were directed by a cook to order in the front. We waited for 30 minutes alongside some other parties in a line and no one came to help us. Mobile order options did not work as they would have been after 7 (although this location was said to be open until 9pm). We really wanted to support a local business, but had to eat at a Raisin Canes a few miles away for dinner.

Have not been to BIG MAMA’S since the old site but managed to drop in this time to the new location in the astounding HIGHLANDER complex, an innovative community hub for this growing Omaha neighbourhood.

A lot of places like this don’t hold up to the hype. I’m glad to say this place did a good job of showing why it’s well regarded in this area. The rice and beans and the macaroni and cheese were definitely tasty and the fried chicken and catfish was great as well. The menu seemed a little bit limited but in the grand scheme of things the menu has everything a restaurant like this needs. I feel the food was slightly pricey but it wasn’t terrible. Finally the lemonade was a good addition to the meal.

I went to this place when it first opened years ago in that gated area close to fontenelle and I didn’t like it much now I tried it again at the accelerator highland park recently April 2023 (twice) because I was working in that area and I waited for someone to take my order. I ordered sides because I was getting a burger next door. The sides were still the same…. Mac and cheese was not like that homemade style, yuck and the cabbage… I didn’t care for it. They gave me the wrong punch, which I ordered the guava when I told her, she seemed to have a attitude about exchanging it…. None of them ever have a smile on their faces, it seem like they are unhappy to be working there, even before

Wanted to take a moment to express how truly disappointed I was on my one and ONLY visit to Big Mama’s Kitchen. First off, I found it to be a decent atmosphere, spacious and nice location. That was the extent of the good things about the visit. I had spoken with a Gladys 4 days prior to setup a surprise Birthday dinner for my oldest daughter. On that call, I mentioned that I would be entertaining a party of 20 or so people , which we ended up with about 22 including children. Having never been there, I was unaware you ordered at a window like takeout. We all ordered in staggered increments. The counter service was extremely rude and seemed bothered by our request to have the “sticky tables” wiped down before people ate. Which, having 4 day notice, is inexcusable. I requested to speak with Gladys several times and she NEVER responded or initiated any contact. The food was GREATLY overrated and Insanely overpriced. I polled several people from our party to get their take and all said they were disappointed. I’m an average cook and there was nothing I tasted that made me think it was special. In addition, the poor service was another issue…Several trips to the counter for silverware, drinks and such. Also, never got the cornbread that was supposed to be included in our order. Now here’s the kicker : We brought a Bday cake and inadvertently forgot the paper plates. I went to the counter and asked if we could have a few paper plates. Can you believe they charged us $4.80 for 12 Dollar Tree plates!!!!! This after a our party bill was upwards of $300 and you have the nerve charge for a few paper plates. Makes it extremely hard to support people’s businesses when they don’t show any appreciation and act as if they’re doing YOU a favor by spending your money with them. My advice would be to hire a Host/Hostess to greet customers and be sure their needs are met .I suggest disposable table cloths if you can’t keep them clean. Honestly wish I could endorse Mama’s Kitchen but our experience was truly lousy, especially since it was an occasion and not a walk in. It truly was a less than Applebee’s type place. And that’s not good.

The hype is deserved! Fried chicken has a tasty crust but isn’t covered in a thick blanket of breading, mac & cheese has a divine cheese sauce & the Mac has a toothiness. Go early and “Treat Yoself” to some sweet potato pie
