We just moved to Bethlehem and decided to drive to Monroe to explore. We stumbled across John’s Supermarket in which Bistro South is located in the grocery store. The food is made fresh to order. We ordered our meals togo. The cashier was friendly. The food was delicious!! I ordered the Peppercorn Steakhouse Burger with pimento cheese fries. It was sooo delicious! Definitely will be coming back to try other menu items!

Don’t believe the hype! Let me preface and say I tasted my daughters burger, and it was very good. However, the club sandwich was no better than something generic I could have thrown together at home and except that I just paid around $12 for it here. The portion sizes are on the smaller side, but that doesn’t deter me since I don’t like to feel overly full after eating. The fries were good, but as I said, don’t believe the hype. In the end, they’re just good fries. They’re not great or amazing, and if they won awards, I find that truly something to give a little chuckle about. All in all I was very disappointed with that club sandwich. The place was dirty, however, it was late in the day, so perhaps this is not always the case, and oerhaps they are short staffed. The girl who took my order was very sweet. Another girl made it a point to loudly express in my direction that they would be closed at 3:30. Mind you, it was 2:17pm upon my arrival. Dishes were piled HIGH near the drink station, and it smelled aweful bad of salad dressing and not so faint smell of just plain trash, which was also full and unattended. Aside from myself, there was one other couple there eating. You stand at the counter to order and pay and then wait for your food to be brought to the table and make your own drinks at the soda machine which is why I am so put off that when paying for my order it asked if I wanted to give a 15%, 20%, or 25%, or custom tip – didn’t even offer a 10% or a $1/$2 feature. Let’s be real. All they did was take my money and drop my food on the dirty table where it smelled of trash, and my view was of those piled high dirty salad dressing bowls. Why ask for a tip before the service even took place?! I regret my 15% $3.76 decision as much as that club sandwich. The price…hmmm…well I guess it was decent, but it definitely could be better for what you’re getting. Maybe they can either increase portion size just slightly OR drop the price by a dollar and a half per plate, and I say that in regards to the restaurant and not my pocketbook (and CLEAN SOMETHING) I can recommend coming here for a burger, TO GO, if you’re not a big eater and get full easily! AVOID THE GENERIC AND INCONSISTENT CLUB SANDWICH with plain american singles sliced cheese in the little plastic wrappers at all cost. It is diasspointing, to say the least.

Got the plate with fried chicken, collard greens, lima beans and corn bread. Not really impressed by the food. The chicken was average but the collard greens and lima beans were so so salty. The tang from the collard greens helped but the lima beans were inedible. Had to change them for the potato salad which is amazing! Some of the best potato salad I’ve ever had. Other than that, the prices were reasonable but the food is not really anything to talk about.

PSA… think back to your first experience with magic… got it? Good, now multiply that by 5, and add 10. That is how you’ll feel when you bite the peppercorn steakhouse burger. I recommend dipping your fries into their blue cheese dressing and then biting that delectable burger. I’m pretty sure this burger is the new fountain of youth. I know I feel younger already.

Have heard about Bistro South…my first visit today with a friend. Nice place inside the market. Especially known for their hamburger, but many other choices. Also, a buffet of meat and veggies. Order first and they bring it to your table. Super nice employees. Very clean.

Bistro South is so good, I was headed to Savannah from Atlanta, and made a 1.5 hour detour to eat their food. The staff is friendly, not to mention extremely talented. Couldn’t recommend Bistro South enough!

My favorite spot for a quick and delicious meal in Monroe! Their creamed corn is the BEST I have ever had and their chicken wrap is delicious. I love that they are regularly testing out new sides and menu items. The staff is friendly, the space is always clean, and the service is quick.
