In 1995 founders Bruce Dean and Bob & Laurie Manley opened the first Black Bear Diner in Mt. Shasta, CA. Their mission was simple: create a fun and friendly atmosphere where the local community could enjoy huge portions of home-style cooking at a reasonable price.
Today, we continue their mission at every Black Bear Diner across the country, as we passionately provide guests an outstanding experience. Wahoo! Black Bear Diner in San Antonio! A breath of fresh air to the diner scene here in the San Antonio area. The first time I had the opportunity to visit a Black Bear Dinner was in California many years ago, and with a lot fewer locations then. I enjoyed my food then, and all of us dining today enjoyed our food very much. We had great service, food was served quickly. Check out the pictures. The meatloaf was fork tender and full of flavor. The chicken fried steak was large and yup, it was fork tender too! Fluffy biscuits and yummy gravy. The bacon was a thicker cut and tasty. The waffle was fun, with a Bear paw imprint. Be aware, the waffle is more cake like and not a thin batter waffle. You only need one! Believe me. Thank you Black Bear for coming to San Antonio! Try it, it’s worth it. Go hungry, leave full, satisfied and happy!

The service and food are excellent! 10/10. The space is clean and very welcoming. I’ve never had waffles like this before they’re almost cake like. So yummy! My mom had pancakes and my partner had the biscuits and gravy and both were delicious. All of our entrees were in the $10-$12 range. A great deal. Highly recommend.

This is definitely a great addition to San Antonio it was great to see this arrive after my wife introduced it to me 12 years ago when we 1st started dating. The portions are large, Is the food is hearty and taste good. The prices are a little steep but you definitely get what you pay for. You will definitely not leave hungry ordering any plate on the menu. They have a full selection of desserts that you can get. Is excellent breakfast and dinner options. And whenever you go you always have to get the fresh squeezed Orange juice it is a staple at every single one of their locations. Delicious sweet and pulpy.

Everything was awesome. 1st time to one of these Black Bear Diners so I didn’t have any expectations but they surpassed whatever I thought it was going to be. Fast attentive service by Xavier. Food took about 10 minutes. The Grizz was awesome! Way too much food! 10 stars!

Solid diner. Plates fill you up and taste delicious, plus the atmosphere is cozy. Kitchen/server ended up screwing up my order (I asked to omit some items on the burger due to preference but they didn’t omit them). Despite that, still delicious and fresh cooked foods.

What a delight! It’s been many years since I’ve been to Northern CA, but this makes me miss my grandparents small town of Arnold. A great diner is hard to find in 2023 because everything so commercial. This is a great diner with a big personality and big portions! I loved this place!

I thought everything was amazing. If I was being picky, I could say the combo of Bleu cheese, bacon, and fried chicken was a little too salty. The waiters yelling and cussing in the background is why I will stay away. I get enjoying your job, and joking w co-workers makes the time go fast. So happy and excited Black Bear Diner made it in San Antonio,Tx. Been going for years whenever we visit CA. Delicious and high quality food. The homemade sausage patties are flavorful. We LOVE the fresh squeeze orange juice!!! Restaurant is clean and service is wonderful. Family friendly. Highly recommend it!

Friendly service, albeit somewhat slow. The portions of the meals were generous. Some issues with the meal included: the green bean side dish did not have bacon like the menu claimed and really seemed like they just opened a can of green beans and dumped it in a dish, the fried shrimp overcooked to the point that the batter was inedible (and I had a difficult time breaking it off, it was that hard), and the tri tip was super tough. The tough meat worked out well for my dog though – she enjoyed my leftovers with gusto. I enjoyed the mashed potatoes with gravy.
