In 1995 founders Bruce Dean and Bob & Laurie Manley opened the first Black Bear Diner in Mt. Shasta, CA. The food is amazing and I was a big fan i since noticed they hiked the price up to a ridiculous amount. I will not be going back charged me 6 dollars for a large cup of orange juice lol that’s eye gouging I’m better off buying a gallon at the grocery store. Then kids drinks are 1.99 and the cup is super small food was great as allways but definitely will not be going back so much more affordable options around I paid 70 for 1 adult and 3 kids. If you like saving money dnt go here

Visiting from Memphis. We went for breakfast and were extremely disappointed. I had the Grizz and my husband had the steak and eggs. He ordered his steak medium and it was well done. I had the grits and they were not good. The best thing on my plate was the ham and bacon. We never got our pancakes. Our server never came back and checked once he took our orders. I don’ t even recall him introducing himself and saying his name. We were finished eating when I was able to flag him down to say the steak was overcooked and we never got our pancakes and we were ready for the check. He informed us they were out of pancake batter. They took care of our meal. I still tipped him $20 because I am a general manager back home. Definitely did not deserve the tip. Maybe he pre-judged us or maybe he was having a bad day Maybe the pancakes would have made up for the rest of the meal. The grits did not taste done and his potatoes were so hard, like they were not cooked long enough.

I came in on a late Saturday morning and the service was excellent. I ordered a corned beef hash with potatoes, 2 scrambled eggs, a fruit cup and a biscuit. Every thing was delicious. The coffee was also hot and delicious.

Rachel provided excellent, friendly, caring service with a smile!! It was crazy busy, but she still came by several times checking on me and topping off my coffee. Cajun blackened salmon was fresh, well cooked, and super tasty!

Great lunch at Black Bear Diner! The service was great, despite being busy. Parmesan Sourdough Burger and Bacon Cheddar Burgers were cooked perfectly, and tasted fantastic! Worth going for more than just breakfast!

Arrived around 4:30 pm. Host greets and confirms our party size (2). He asks asks us to wait a minute (I assume to check with waitress). While waiting we observe about 3 out of 20-ish tables seated. Place was NOT busy. He comes back to is after about 2 minutes and informs us he’s gonna need 10 minutes to seat us. Who does that? I turned around and left. If the host is to incompetent to seat me right away and handle a drink order when there are only 3 customers in the restaurant I can’t trust the rest of the staff yo handle my food order with any kind of proficiency. Black Bear is a great chain of restaurants. I’ve always received great service and a good meal. Unfortunately this one is run by incompetent hacks.

We found this diner as we needed another place to eat other than the hotel. The service is good and the food is good, they have a huge menu. The restaurant looks like a rustic wood environment with logs and wood bears.
