When in Plainsboro, drop by the Black Pearl Coffee Shop. They offer great coffee and many flavors like hazelnut, caramel, and peppermint. The tablet at the register makes ordering quick and they have delicious pastries and sandwiches.

Cute little coffee store that serves breakfast and lunch items. There were a couple of vegetarian and vegan options which was great to see. It also has many bakery items and also serve gelatos. I got the vegan delight and a lemonade. Portion was large and the bagel still warm. Very friendly service. Would happily come here again to have lunch and try their baked goods.

I recently went to Black Pearl coffee to try their iced coffee. I usually go to chain stores but when I discovered this cute coffee shop I was excited to give them a try and support a small local business. Sadly, it was a very disappointing experience. I had never been here before, so when I was handed what looked to be a pre-packaged drink with a plastic seal over the top (instead of a lid) I was a bit surprised. I told the worker who handed it to me that I ordered an iced coffee and asked her if that was my order. I was told yes, so I left just assuming maybe their iced coffee here is pre-packaged. It tasted a bit watered down, and was bland – had no coffee taste to it at all and had an odd aftertaste to it. When I went home I looked through pictures from other reviews and discovered that I had been given an iced chai latte. I don’t normally leave negative reviews, but an iced chai latte is a drink way outside of my normal preferences and it’s not a drink I ever would have chosen. I had even paid extra to upsize to the larger size iced coffee when I ordered because I was happy to support a local coffee shop. So I ended up wasting $4+ to receive a drink that wasn’t even anything close to what I ordered. They did seem busy and maybe a bit overwhelmed as it was the weekend, but that is no excuse to fulfill orders so quickly that you can’t get them right (especially being that I questioned if my order was correct). I would have rathered a longer wait time and actually have received an iced coffee then to be handed a random drink and told it was my order. Accuracy matters and this experience was not a great first impression that would compel me to become a returning customer.

What a wonderful hidden gem of a coffee shop. A buddy of mine knew that I am particular about my coffee and said that I needed to come here. Was pleased to see that they use Stumptown coffee, which is popular on the West Coast, and a good indicator for a quality coffee shop. The pastries are also phenomenal and compliment the lattes. Also, for the health conscious they make egg bites in house.

What a good find! Was searching for a coffee shop that had coffee that tasted natural and fresh and not filled with sugar. This is it! We have been here twice already because it’s been a great experience. The employees are fun and give great suggestions. So far we have ordered the London fog latte, matcha latte, regular latte with French vanilla and some pastries. All amazing!

I already love this place! The atmosphere is very chill, a great place to study for a couple hours. Maria and Brad are super friendly and open to answering any questions. The Vegan Delight is my favorite dish so far. Their Lava Latte is really delicious and I’m not normally a coffee person. I’m so glad there’s finally an awesome locally owned coffee shop in town!
