BLU HWY searches for a “Throwback Flair, with timeless Fare”, & touts the food and atmosphere taking you on a culinary road trip through updated American Classics. BLU HWY’s menu represents a comeback in continental cuisine in America. The idea is not to revive or reinvent American cuisine, but to simply pay homage to many of the dishes we grew up with. American cuisine is NOT classic. It is influenced by all the immigrants, Europe and elsewhere. These influences, in certain cities & regions are stronger, & have been modified to the local and indigenous products available. The chef inspired dishes will evoke a sense of comfort and familiarity, but at the same time maintain a focus on current nutritional and dietary preferences.

Spouse and I drove 1.5hr here for a brunch date. We started with Espresso Martinis and Cinnamon Buns. Had Pork Carnitas and the Madame Cristo for mains then ended with the Lemon Ricotta-filled Crepes. Everything was delicious, the wait staff very attentive, and the entire experience was better than we could have imagined.

I really liked this place. The atmosphere was great, several different vibes to choose from including an outside area. Service was great, food also. We got the beef short ribs, deviled eggs, and the octopus. All we’re really good.

This review covers two visits, the first 5 star and the second 3 star. The service is always 5 star, the ambiance is good, but the layout does separate the restaurant into distinct sections. The first visit the food was excellent, Crab Louie was a standout but is sadly no longer available (apparently some issue with Health codes on how they make it – suggest adapting the dish to meet the stupid health codes). Our second visit was disappointing on the food. We ordered light fare and it lacked distinct flavors that were a bit unbalanced. The octopus dish was a large portion of a very citrus driven chickpea hummus and very little octopus which was drowned out and underseasoned. Octopus is not an expensive seafood so should have been the major component. The hummus toast was likewise unbalanced but overall was a pretty good dish. The avocado toast topped with trout didn’t present well aesthetically but was flavorful. Our first visit the negroni was excellent the second visit, not so much. Overall I think Blu Hwy is hitting a lot of highlights of a neighborhood restaurant, prices are about right, servers are fantastic. Definitely recommend a visit and it seems they rotate the menu pretty frequently so I hope on our next visit the menu has refreshed a little

The patio was the perfect spot for cocktails and catching up. The hostess was tied up on a long call and I was surprised no other staff assisted, especially since it was slow. Server was late to check on us, but food and drinks were great.

Extremely pleased. Was a bit confusing finding the entrance. However, once we did, everything else was pretty darn impressive. Our host was very efficient and polite. She was also knowledgeable of the menu and ensured we had everything we needed. Excellent service. The food was absolutely delicious, and our favorite was the spinach Artichoke dip definitely recommended. The restrooms were clean and smelt good. It’s definitely appropriate for family dining. They also have a patio and bar area. So, two thumbs up for me.

The princess and I always try someplace new during restaurant week and last night we had dinner at the Blu Hwy. I was not surprised that this newer restaurant was packed on a Friday night with a fun and lively crowd. Although it was very loud we were able to enjoy a nice conversation at our table as well as listening to others around us. The service was excellent even though the joint was jumping. The princess enjoyed one of the house speciality drinks and said it was delicious. We ordered the BBQ half chicken and the braised short ribs. We both enjoyed our meals and agreed that the butterscotch pudding was a stand out. Street parking is limited but there is plenty of off street parking in the garage. Be sure to remember to validate the parking tickets. Easy to find at 51st and main. The outside seating looked very inviting and when the weather improves we might go back and enjoy it.

Oh my goodness the smoked cocktails! Also, a great happy hour. And most of all, the most excellent service. Top notch, as expected at fine dining, but also very lighthearted and fun. Our server managed our large group flawlessly! The corn chowder is great – the meals here are very comforting. I love the attention to detail as to the customer’s experience. The chairs are very comfortable. The place is beautiful inside. There’s a lot of comfy seating outside, and heated patios as well. Parking is street parking but there’s a reserved spot for drop off near the door which was helpful as I was driving someone on crutches. There’s also a nearby parking garage. Entrance, restrooms are accessible. The bar is pretty large.

Wow! Spent the evening at Loose Park and then drove to enjoy a meal on the patio at Blu Hwy. Incredible food and excellent service. Tried the mushroom toast and a great beet appetizer. Cocktails were awesome, and they have a modest but solid wine selection. Really have to praise the service, though. Their staff understands elevated dining and it shows.
