Another outing with the daughter. We were in town to do some shopping and eat. The Bonzai restaurant was an option especially cause I like steak and she likes sushi. We drove into an empty parking lot, we thought they were closed but it was a weekday around 10 in the morning so we pulled on the door and it opened. No one was there until we got there then they started piling in. We were greeted promptly and asked where we would like to sit and with it being my first time, I wanted to have the chef cook for me. The server, she was amazing, don’t recall her name. The experience was unforgettable. I’ll go back there and next time I will take my husband. Kinda felt like I was in S.A at the riverwalk but nope.

Ok…. We’ve been supporting this place since they opened. They have made some improvements with the aged meat displays etc. We’ve enjoyed many meals and have had some that were sub par. Tonight I was so disappointed I don’t think I want to come back, ever.

We have eaten here frequently in Kerrville. We like the sushi, we like the hibachi. However, the last 2 times we have been there, the temperature of the restaurant is HOT AS HELL!! I’ve never, as a woman, broken a sweat in a restaurant! We try to get Dakota as our waiter…we met him, as our waiter, about a year ago when we moved back home to Texas. He is such a delight. Always a smile on his face. We consider him like a child or grandchild. Today, sadly, we said goodbye. I cannot believe this place is not trying to keep him!! It’s rare that a person of service brings such a smile to your face and so much joy to an epicurean experience. If I had a business, I’d hire him on the spot for any position I had open. Good luck in all your future endeavors, Dakota! I don’t know if we’ll be back but if we return, it won’t be the same without Dakota. Shame on y’all for not trying to retain such an awesome, caring employee. I know it’s his choice to leave, but I’d fight to keep him.

So I visited this restaurant tonight. The atmosphere and staff is great! The sushi was very fresh and delicious along with the scallops. The Aged steak fell short of my expectations for the price. I really expected a thicker cut of meat and for it to be more tender. But in all farness to the restaurant I believe it is the hibachi cooking method that really doesn’t complement the steak. The inside of the steak is tender but the outside from being cooked on the hibachi grill made it tough. So I guess the bottom line is don’t expect to get a flame grilled steak from a restaurant that doesn’t cook with that method.

Great place for a date night or family outing. Food is always cooked perfectly and lots of fun at the grille tables. We love their sushi . Lots of fun cocktails too! This isn’t a place for speed unless you sit at the bar. Prepare to be there an hour or two at least!

Normally this is our “go to” place for special occasions because the food and service are so good. Not sure what happened tonight, the food was still good, but the service was horrendous. Normally we wrap the night up with a bottle of Saki and an order of Sashimi. We skipped it tonight for fear we would be stuck there till midnight waiting on our order. I don’t blame the wait staff, it seemed to be more of a problem of zero floor management present to deal with a busy night. I will seriously think twice about selecting Bonzai for a special occasion after the way we were served tonight. Very disappointing! Note the empty glass of beer in the pic. That was the story of the night, waiting on food and beverages.
