The Bush Farmhouse plays hopscotch with South African flavors, cuisine and drink.
So what exactly is that? Well, like America, South Africa is a nation of immigrants. Europeans borrowed from, blended with local African cuisines, and vice versa. It’s glorious, flavorful cooking – made for lively tables, sharing and good cheer.

Big thanks to my sis for the invite that took us to the Bush Farmhouse for lunch – an adventure of flavors and fun. To drink I had the BITTERLEKKER honeybush non alcoholic drink ☀️ it’s got a tingly taste but tasty tastes good. Don’t be shy to eat the farmhouse burger with your hands, it’s too good to use fork and knife.

If you want some fantastic unique food, this is a must go. Try to sit near the kitchen, because the chef is awesome to talk too. The owner is amazing. The food is absolutely seasoned well, great spices, and taste amazing. I highly recommend Bush Farmhouse.

The food and service is absolutely excellent! My partner and I visited for lunch and shared the chicken liver pate, octopus salad, salmon cakes, and shrimp roll. Everything tasted amazingly fresh and was cooked to perfection. The staff was lovely and made us feel so welcome. The cute farm animals and outdoor seating area is an added bonus, can’t wait to come back again for dinner!

The Bush Farmhouse is one of our regular go-to places to eat … for good reason. It has an eclectic atmosphere (complete with livestock in the side yard) and menu. Last night, we took friends for their first visit and they really enjoyed it. We started with the Burrata Dip and Cheese Plate (with Manchego and Brie) and bottles of red and white South African wines. My wife had a Farmhouse Salad with Salmon. One friend dove into his Boerewors Roll and Homemade (Savory) Pie before I could take photos. The other friend (who was born and raised in South Africa) had Pap & Boerewor, which she gave a thumbs up. Every time I go, I swear I’m going to order something different, but I love the Bunny Chow with Lamb Curry and it’s what I end up ordering time after time … and I’ve never been disappointed. Mark and his staff do a great job. We’re fortunate to have such a unique place in Black Mountain.

We had such a good time here last week for lunch. We especially liked the funky decor and space. Our table of four sat outside and we had the sausage rolls, homemade pot pie, shrimp salad and a veggie bunny chow. All great, interesting choices. I recommend them. Our seasoned server, David was professional but fun and knew the menu inside out which is very helpful when you aren’t familiar with the dishes and seasonings. Diego, Mark (owner) and all the staff were so incredibly friendly and helpful. We all agreed we’d return, perhaps for brunch. They also have live music there. This isn’t the kind of place to go and rush through a meal, but instead to relax and enjoy the offerings. Looking forward to our next visit.

The food is a solid five but they need to work out a few issues with service.

We were lucky enough to find this amazing restaurant while in Black Mountain. It may be a little off the main road but it is 100% worth a visit. The service was quick and friendly. The food was delicious. I loved the flower garden, the animals in the pen and the laid back feel of it all. I recommend the tomato soup and salmon cakes they were fabulous. My MIL really enjoyed her lamb curry and my husband was as thrilled with his short ribs. Whatever you do, don’t miss this place. My only complaint is I can’t have dinner here more often since I live in Florida!!
