Butterjoint is a comfy bar and restaurant located in North Oakland. Our welcoming and eclectic atmosphere is appropriate for almost any occasion – whether it be meeting a friend for a drink, celebrating an important event, or relaxing after work.
Our dinner menu is a mixture of familiar Pittsburgh foods (think pierogies, hamburgers, French fries) and French bistro classics (beef tartare, raclette, mussels), and seasonal specials that come and go throughout the year. Buns are hand rolled and baked fresh in the mornings at our coffee shop next door, Sidecar.

Exceptional service and food. We really enjoyed our dinner here. The ‘lumps’ were the softest melt in your mouth bread I’ve ever had. The burgers were huge and delicious and the fries yum. We finished the meal with the cheesecake which was also excellent. This was our second time here and we will be going back again!

Beautiful decor and very attentive service. Our waitress made sure to have our veggie burgers and fries prepared in canola oil instead of tallow. The veggie burger was ok, not as flavorful as others we’ve had. The pierogies were tasty, as was the polenta. The side salad vinaigrette was a bit too salty for me. Our beer (Baby Kittens) and cocktail were delicious!

The well-crafted and unique menu and cocktail list at Butterjoint doesn’t disappoint, as each item served is perfectly executed. The cocktails including the Purple Nurple mezcal drink and a “Mercy of the Bartender” (bartender’s choice), which turned out to be a great gin drink, were both excellent. The raclette was amazing and I would consider a must-order. Finding stinging nettle soup on the menu was a real treat and didn’t disappoint. The pierogies are always top notch. A dining companion proclaimed the Butterjoint burger to the best burger in town. I’d describe the decor is semi-rustic urban that proves to be both comfortable and provide a fun vibe. Our server was knowledgeable, attentive and on-point.

We had the pirogies (made in house) which were buttery crisp and perfectly accompanied by caramelized onion and browned broccolini, and the best veggie burger I have ever tasted, the Deluxe, with pickled veggies and aioli. Sandra our server went out of her way to make us feel welcome, and the atmosphere was bright and cozy and perfect for a cold rainy day.

Visiting the area and came across Butterjoint by accident. My only regret is I found this gem of a place at the end of my trip that I wasn’t able to eat there again before leaving Pittsburgh. The food is locally sourced. I had the veggie fancy burger, fries, side salad, vinegar pie and a pink lady drink. The veggie burger is in my top 3 best burgers I’ve ever had. The side salad was perfection. Lightly dressed with beets, blue cheese and mixed greens – I devoured it!
