Outstanding atmosphere in the iconic Hotel Chelsea. Highlights of the meal were the crudo, ravioli, artichoke, maitake and the chocolate soufflé.

Made a reservation on a whim as there aren’t yet many reviews. All four in our party loved it — great food, amazing atmosphere. Felt like we were in a blend of Viennese coffee house, Parisian cafe, and old school New York. Partner and I had cocktails at the bar while we waited for our friends, and the bartenders were helpful and personable — we loved their take on a French 75. Food is a la carte for most main courses, so be sure to add a side dish if you want one with your entree (not an issue for us, but we overheard one woman berating the waitstaff about her fish not coming with a side dish — insert eye roll here). The portions are European-sized, which I love; didn’t leave feeling too full. Service was phenomenal, everyone was very professional and warm. We had one dish (a side of beans) that never came, but we weren’t charged for it and found we didn’t need it, anyway. That’s the only reason I deducted one star from the Service category; it may just be the process of ironing out a few kinks since they opened so recently.

There is so much potential here. Location is great. Staff is a bunch of misfits. Food is mediocre. We arrive no reservation with 75% of the restaurant available. They sat us in the middle of the floor. I asked for a table near the window, I was told there is a reservation; that table and many others remained vacant the entire time we were there; about 2 hours. Total turnoff. Our waiter was really nice and accommodating. My 7 year old ordered steak frites, steak was a bit chewy and frites could have been a bit crunchier. Husband ordered the omelet, best meal of the table, think The Bear. I had the frisée salad, too much frisée but ok. We also had the ravioli and chickpea fries. Ravioli ok, missing something. Chickpea fries were the best item on our table. We also had the soufflé – just ok. Not outstanding. The staff honestly needs to get it together.

Lovely service, great food, nice interior but whoever designed it didn’t take into account acoustics. I was seated in the restaurant part (not the bar), it got louder and louder as it got busier, very uncomfortable to sit there, and have a conversation, so much so we had to skip desert and went somewhere else around the corner. The small tables are so close, one struggles to get out of the table..therefore, you can hear everyone else’s conversation next to you.. Shame as it’s a lovely environment.

Wow. Came in on a Friday night for dinner and I have to share that Café Chelsea is just stunning in every way. The bar is gorgeous and the main dining room is so grand. Food was delicious – the ravioli, Loup de Mer and soufflé were our favorites – and we loved our cocktails and Claire’s recommendation of the most lovely Chablis. Service was impeccable – we felt very cared for throughout our dinner. The hospitality here makes this place really special (bravo, team!) and we can’t wait to return.

The food was amazing!!! Everything was really delicious, but my favorites: Ravioles, chicken, the tartare, the lemon pasta and the ice cream. Service was friendly and the cocktails were really good too. I will be back. 10/10 🙂
