I’ve been going here for years. I love the warm bread and olive oil and herb dip as an appetizer.. Turkish tea is amazing. I like to try different things when I go there. I have not been disappointed yet. Though my favorite is the kebabs.

We had a fabulous lunch at Cafe Istanbul! The food was scrumptious and the patio seating was delightful!!! I had the chicken kabob and my friend had lamb kabob accompanied with basmati rice and salad. We also had tabouleh appetizer. Dessert was baklava and I followed it all with a fabulous cocktail – Aegean Breeze! We spent the afternoon dining al fresco on a beautiful covered patio landscaped with flowing flowers and vines surrounding the seating area. The newly improved patio certainly has elevated Cafe Istanbul to the status of one of my favorite patios for dining in the Columbus!

Normally, this would be a 5-star review. I eat here every couple of months as a treat to myself. My last two visits have been a disappointment, with today’s the worst. Both times, my kebabs were overcooked. I asked for rare to medium rare and was served medium well. They were still flavorful because their marinade is straight from the gods, but I just don’t enjoy meat that well done. The menu plainly states that you can get veggies OR salad. I prefer the salad- it’s never been an issue before but two times now they gave me veggies like I didn’t even speak. This time I sent it back – which I Never do because it makes me uncomfortable and the people are so nice (and should have sent the meat back too but didn’t). Today’s bread was burnt, bordering on inedible. And a staff member had their cell phones on a very loud ringtone and was carrying on loud calls out in the public area. These are all first world problems, to be sure, and while their prices are reasonable, I am still paying for things I didn’t receive and for some things I didn’t want. Hopefully they can get back to what they were. If this had been my first visit, it probably would’ve been my last.

I had high hopes as the warm bread and hummus with the side of red pepper oil was so tasty. Another reviewer called the hummus bland and I firmly disagree. Hummus should be smooth and mild and it was that. Having traveled in the Middle East a bit I can say the hummus was as it should be in my opinion.

Server was very inattentive. They do not have the same selection that another location did as far as food goes. They were very stingy with the bread. The server asked if we wanted a refill on our apple tea only after we asked for the check. This location was awful. Will never be returning to this particular location. The one in Dublin is so much better.
