Visited here a while ago before it was listed on the Michelin guide. Simple menu but food taste great. I liked everything we ordered. Each dish was beautifully presented. My favorite were the Trout Almondine and mushroom rice. The flavor was unique and delicious. The only thing was their birthday dessert was a bit too creative. It’s an edible candle. I personally would prefer an actual dessert like a macaroon or cake.

One of the best restaurants we’ve ever visited. Every dish was delicious & creative, without being forced. The beef tartar, served with fried basil “chips” was perfect. The cocktails were perfectly made & delicious. The burger is a mixture of beef & duck. Amazing & quite unusual. I also recommend the chartreuse elixir vegetal, which is served as a few drops of chartreuse essence on 5 rosettes of meringue. It was the perfect dessert. Service is first rate, couldn’t recommend more highly. Not cheap, but worth every penny.

If I can only order one dish from Camphor, 100% bite for the scallops dumplings. BEST ever scallops I ever had before. It’s hard for me to share this dish with my boyfriend. The mushroom rice also super tasty. It’s close to Chinese clay pot rice dish. The rice is a little bit too dry, maybe it will be better to have a more ‘creamy’ and soft texture rice, and only with a thin layer of crispy rice with the iron pan.

I’d needed a dinner reservation that was late enough for when I landed in LA and checked into my accommodation. I discovered Camphor through a search, and they were able to accommodate me.

Camphor (French Bistro/Asian “fusion”). The wine we brought was excellent. We were only permitted to bring two bottles ($50 corkage, small stems) . The white burg at 3x markup for was also excellent. As for the food, excellent choice if you like over/seasoned , salty, misrepresented food with lots and lots of extra oil. The “Asian” part on most of the dishes came in the form of some kind of MSG or glutamate seasoning that was loaded on so heavy it tasted like MSG. As for a positive note, i did like the spinach and the chocolate dessert. One of the more amusing dishes was an escargot dish that Scot described as “essence” of escargot. They were little fried breaded bits about the size of a fingernail. No snails were harmed in the preparation of this dish. The steak was good if you don’t mind a pre-sous vide. The service was VERY attentive as well. Very motivated to keep you to that two hour time limit on the res. Don’t look away or that plate with a bite left on it will be gone. Speaking of service, even though the prices are quite high for fast-casual bistro fare, instead of actually passing some of the revenue to the staff in the form of wages like most restaurants, they throw that out the window and simply charge a 20% service fee. Why yes, they still add a tip line to the receipt.#Thefoodietraveler

The menu looks simple but full of surprises. I love that every dishes is small and unique so I can order more to try it out. I order barbajuan, oyster, clams, scallop, spinach, chicken, and seasonal tart.

Meal was exceptional, as was the service. Do wish the server has communicated I was buying a $35 glass of wine when I asked for a recommendation. Realize I’m not the usual clientele you apparently cater to… just a garden variety gourmet on a budget. Good thing that tip was included in the bill!

Great Restaurant , hard to find in a nondescript location. However once you open the door to enter , the ambiance is really elegant. We tried pretty much two/three dishes from appetizers to mains.

Loved this place start to finish. French food is already in my book the goat, but this restaurant is a shooting star amongst LA fine dining.
