At our Stephenville, TX location, we are part of a historic seafood tradition. Captain D’s Seafood Restaurant first opened its doors back on August 15, 1969. A lot has changed since then, but our commitment to serving freshly prepared seafood at a great value has been our core mission from the beginning. Known originally as Mr. D’s Seafood and Hamburgers, Captain D’s was opened in Donelson, Tennessee. From the very start, we set out to provide quality seafood at reasonable prices, a concept that was revolutionary at the time.

First time for us. We pass by every day on our home and thought it was time to give them a look. We were not disappointed. We both ordered Shrimp Skewers and Hush Puppies. I got Coke Slaw. She got Broccoli. It came on a bed of rice with a small (and tasty) bread roll. Portions were good and the taste was great!! We’ll be back!

So disappointing!! We are visiting town and heard good things about Captain D’s. We were the only car in line and had to wait 22 min. We were patient thinking at least our food would be fresh and hot. When our food finally came to the window we were assured that there was plenty of tarter, red sauce, ketchup, napkins and utensils in the bag. We got back to our hotel room and discovered only a ketchup packet in the bag. Coleslaw with no spoon! Our shrimp was dry and burnt. The few fries they gave me were hard and cold even with one ketchup. The hushpuppies were dry and old. I had to wash them down with hot flat Pepsi as the little bit of ice in my drink was melted.

Not sure I understand the menu my wife ordered the plate with fish chicken and shrimp. With just okra for her side. Which was not a premium side. They charge me the 12.99 for the plate then they charged me another .49 cents for each side. Why didn’t you charge me for the hush puppies I thought the sides come with the meal.

Okay so this past Sunday (July 30th) me and a friend went there since it’s one of our favorite places and thought heck yeah! Well I don’t know what happened to this place, but the quality of the food is just unacceptable. Let me get into it here. First off my friend ordered the supreme sampler and wanted coleslaw and fries. When he got his plate he didn’t see the coleslaw. That’s because it was literally a tablespoon of coleslaw under his green beans (which he didn’t order)?? That’s weird. His fries were actually cold. Not warm COLD. Somehow his fired fish and chicken were absolutely the most overcooked things on the planet (obviously an exaggeration chill people). Mine was the whitefish and shrimp combo. I ordered it with green beans and broccoli. Cold, cold, and yeah cold. All of it except the fish which was like half fried half not??. Awful thing in the end for me was that I felt like it was off and wham bam got food poisoning! No surprise because it’s probably because something was expired or moldy. Why moldy? Well I ordered the shrimp skewer combo to go for the Mrs so she can have something to take to work. Shrimps skewers, loaded baked potato, and broccoli. Easy choice since it’s her favorite. Boy was I wrong. Shrimp had ONE skewer in it with 5 shrimp total, loaded potato had literally nothing but a piece of butter in the box. No bacon bits, cheese, sour cream, or any the typical stuff that makes a potato loaded?? Then this is where it all came together on why I got so sick. My wife immediately upon opening it at work discovered legit MOLD on the broccoli!!! That’s just disgusting and totally unacceptable. I get it food industry wise, (worked in it for years) sometimes you just don’t perform the same every day and that’s normal and understandable, but not this … I don’t know what happened to the sweet ladies who worked there before and were so awesome and made everything the absolute bomb, but the two guys I had the other day just didn’t seem to give a damn. That’s just the food and I guess service. I guess for all of you I can throw in the two other bonus stuff.

They were obviously understaffed, the lady at the counter complained that she’d been there almost 12 hours. They were out of many items. Chicken being one of them. The oysters were horrible . This is our worst visit to this location. The employees tried their best to make the best of what they had, but it still wasn’t a pleasant trip for us.

Tables and counter tops were dirty, the employees looked like they’d rather be anywhere else, the ketchup pump was actually cocktail sauce, and cocktail sauce was actually ketchup. Food was okay but way too expensive.

My mom and I went there may 5th 2023 and the manager didn’t know what went on my platter and a new guy just started but he was sweet and so the shrimp was cooked too long okra wasn’t done enough they didn’t know where the crab was so I had to substitute. My mom got 1 fish like 4 shrimp. It was not good and I usually love this place.

Food is always good. There are several choices. I have gotten the 2pc fish with 6pc shrimp (fried) for what seems like forever but I tried the Chesapeake Whitefish with the shrimp skewer, needless to say it was delicious! The green beans are really good sometimes I get a double order instead of getting coleslaw or another vegetable. Johnny almost always has the Blackened Whitefish with greenbeans and steamed broccoli.
