The Walleye has excellent flavor and the portions was two generous pieces. Could have been filled up with just one but loved the taste so ate them both..our server was at the table quickly and said our food would be out soon. She was right, we were impressed with how quickly we got our food. The Amish Peanut butter sauce was a highlight as well.

The food was good and the price was reasonable. It came out fast and hot. Friendly family run business. This is a new restaurant so they are still working on figuring out their niche. This was once a grocery store and much of the building still looks like that. Once they’ve been up and running if they upgraded the seating and look of the building that would be nice and help the atmosphere. Definitely a good place to eat! Try it for yourself. 🙂

We stopped by here on our way back to the cottage we were staying in, we had no idea how amazing the food would be!! We wish we lived closer (we are from Missouri), so we could stop in often. If we ever end up vacationing in the area again, we will definitely be back! Excellent food, we all had the pasta bar. Amazing and very kind and attentive staff. One gentleman even did a magic trick with a coloring book for our kiddos. If you haven’t tried this place, or are considering it… do it!

My husband & I tried Cardinal Restaurant today for the first time; we were disappointed. Apparently, we came in for breakfast when they had some larger groups of 8, etc. But, we waited close to an hour to get our meals. His omelet was okay & it had homemade wheat toast. I ordered biscuits & gravy which consisted of 2 tiny biscuits about a half inch high & 2 ” around. The gravy was very thin with a few, tiny pieces of sausage links. The homemade white toast was good, but barely toasted. The waitress was nice, but had the entire dining room to cover. Will try another time at dinner & hope it’s much better.

I wanted to give 2 1/2 stars, because they are halfway there. A few improvements would go a long way.

If you find yourself in this cute little town of Custer, this is a must stop! The food is absolutely delicious. The prices are extremely reasonable. The atmosphere has a very cute little town feel. And the service is top notch. 10/10 we can’t wait to return.

Just tried the Cardinal Restaurant for the first time tonight, we thought it was really good! The staff was friendly and prompt. Never had an issue with the coffee getting empty so that’s a big plus. In fact, the coffee was delicious. Lately, it seems so many restaurants coffee tastes very weak and just not that good. I don’t know if that’s true or if it’s just been since I had Covid last year, but my taster doesn’t seem off. So, it’s kind of disappointing that you have a limited menu on Friday, but I can understand since kitchen space/equipment availability can be an issue. Just be prepared for that when you go. If you want something other than fish or burgers on Friday, then you’ll probably want to change your plans. But the place was hopping when we came so that was a positive sign. Seemed almost like back in the 90s when people used to go out to dinner and just sat and would shoot the breeze rather than being all quick to finish up and dash off. And to finish up, they had a HUGE list of desserts available. We didn’t have any but I’m sure that it would’ve been delicious if we did. I’m kind of surprised that I saw some reviews saying there was too much grease. Unless they’ve improved since then, I thought it was perfect. I had the bacon cheeseburger and it was the first time in a long time that didn’t have grease drip on my shirt after the first bite. So, kudos to that! We will most likely be going back but since it’s out of town, it’s not something we can frequent every day.
