Casa Mezcal opened in 2009 as the first Mezcaleria in NYC. It was founded by Ignacio Carballido, Restauranteur and Mezcalier and the famous Mexican painter Guillermo Olguín, who’s joint vision was to integrate art, music, traditional and modern Mexican cuisine and an extensive variety of mezcal and agave spirits from all around Mexico in one communal place.
In 2021, the restaurant took a turn to adapt to new trends; chef/Restauranteur Florian Hugo and Mexican mixologist and designer Jacqueline Piccini were added to the family with the mission to put Casa Mezcal back on trend with updated cooking techniques and creative mixology while still preserving the authenticity of the Mexican culture it strives to promotes and represent.
Creative Mexican cantina with an art gallery upstairs & a performance space in the basement. Based on 590 reviews, the restaurant has received a rating of 4.3 stars. Price $$

A friend whose a local brought us here for our honeymoon and it was incredible! They weren’t serving the vegetarian soup she usually orders but the staff and kitchen were so nice and offered to make her something she could still have and it was excellent. I had the best bierria tacos that I have ever had and my husband had beef tacos that were excellent. We all had drinks and the drinks were also incredible. The staff was so kind and lovely, they even gave us some amazing churros at the end. I will absolutely be back the next time we come to NYC.

We have been wanting to go to Casa Mezcal for awhile and tonight was the night. We were seated on time for a reservation. The decor and atmosphere is very welcoming and so is the staff. We started with the guacamole and chips and it was perfect. My wife had bloody Maria and I had a LA MULA DE PEDRO both were excellent. The GOBERNADOR quesadilla was very good and so was the BURRITO ESPECIAL. If you like tequila and mezcal this place is a must. Great vibe.

Good place, I just wish the birria tacos were a little less dry, it comes with a tiny bit of consomé on the side (very stingy) but they were too dry. The guacamole is awesome! The service is 8/10 would come back

Guys! The mescal mixology class for Valentine’s Day was an absolute amazing experience. It was their first time doing it and they were so generous with their time and samplings. We absolutely love them and we loved their teacher. 10/10!!! They are so passionate

It’s a decent place. Many of the drink are mezcal mixed so if you’re into it, this is the place for you, Didn’t try the food. Friendly staff.

I feel disappointed about writing this review. The bartender, Nick, provided a negative experience. As someone who appreciates tequila, I asked for specific brands, but he claimed they weren’t available, even though I could see them behind the bar. He then proceeded to yell at us, displaying rude behavior. Fortunately, another bartender (who was Latin) apologized on Nick’s behalf.

Super cute place, mixed drinks were good, the only downside is that the food really needed some flavor as a Mexican myself I know what Mexican food should taste like, salt was definitely one thing missing from the food.
