Portuguese Food is not disappointing and portions are bigger then most places even take left overs home. Always will return to this place and it’s a cool location because the New Jersey transit come thru ( Berkeley Heights train stop ). Amazing to watch the train to pass by while eating. Service can be super busy but worth every minute to wait for your food. The staff is super nice and inside feels like mom&pop restaurant ( could be warm due to humidity of grilling inside but food is worth the bites ).

Charkoal Portuguese Grill is conveniently located at the Berkley Heights train station. This first visit for takeout proved to be really good experience. I ordered the Garlic Shrimp, which came with Rice & French Fries. The rice tasted freshly made and was plentiful; the Garlic Shrimp was well seasoned and the aroma alone made me eager to taste. Had always seen the place on train ride to/from work (in Berkeley Heights train station house) but never hopped off the train to try. Had gotten their 1/2 bbq chicken as a “too good” surprise package and it was a lot of food (bag of fries) for the price. Would go back someday and order off their menu to fairly gauge food quantity.

RIBS are Delicious, juicy, enough flavor fat for yummy flavor (to lean is dry in my opinion). Spanish potatoes are awesome and their fried sweet plantains are the best .

The sauce they use for the chicken is top notch. Different than the standard sauce you get at other places. Good size chicken, fries are not mushy. The flan is a good dessert too. Will go back for more…
