Food is amazing, really good. Portions are big. Service was really nice. The only thing is that you can hear all the guys drinking at the bar. The acoustics of the place make them sound really loud.

We went for Mother’s Day and they had a shorter menu with a few options. I got the paella and it was a big portion that was enough to feed 3 people! It was very good. I would return another day to try something off the regular menu. There is limited parking in the back and street parking (meters).

This restaurant is really good. Very authentic in Portuguese cuisine. Food is super fresh and cooked perfectly. Octopus and steak were cooked so well, melting in your mouth. The quantity of food was more then enough! Dessert was delicious and super fresh! Food came fairly quickly! I was very satisfied! Would recommend this place 100%!

Went as a party of 8 for a 6:15 reservation on a Saturday night. We where seated immediately and our orders where taken quickly as well. Our food came out within 20 minutes and was delicious! I had a caldo verde soup, the beef and pork mix, and a rice pudding for dessert. I recommend Chaves and will be returning.

Deliciously seasoned quality seafood and meat perfectly presented. Great service – Excellent prices. We have eaten there 3x and the food, service and atmosphere is consistently 5*. The paella is the best I ever had as is the cod with broccoli rabe and steak with mushroom sauce. The menu – from appetizers to drinks – has enough variety to please adults and kids. Out first experience there was merely because of convenience but now happily drive 45 minutes to enjoy the food in a relaxing atmosphere. I can’t think of a better compliment!!

Delicious authentic Portuguese food. Both dishes were delicious, we tried the shrimp Mozambique and shrimp Diana with grilled onions and peppers in a garlic sauce. Friendly service and good food.

This review is long over due! We had our baby’s baptism there March 19. I can’t not speak highly enough about the professionalism, the kindness & the flexibility that Elizabeth (the owner) provided us. From the very beginning she was so helpful and kind. Honestly, she treated us like family. She worked with us to get the menu we wanted and was extremely reasonably priced. She even worked with us around the kid’s menu. The day of the event, her restuarant was packed however, our party never felt like we had to wait for food or drinks. Elizabeth & her team were on top of everything! It was a great day for our family and the folks at Chaves were a big part of that! If you are looking for a place to host a small party, want great food & service that matches, I strongly recommend giving Elizabeth a call!

My colleagues and I came here during the lunch time to get Francesinha a Porto (for those who don’t know, it is a sandwich stuffed with grilled beef, sausage, bacon, topped with fried egg, then whole thing drenched (or poured over) in tangy sauce/broth). The atmosphere was nice (stark difference from the neighborhood that it is located at) and the service was very good. Took some time for them to make the food but it was nice and flavorful. I haven’t had the “authentic” Francesinha in Porto but my buddy thought it was good enough for Hartford.
